Jonnu Smith Trade?

If we get less than a 2nd for Smith then what are we doing? He's a pro bowler and our go to man last year. Come on Grier if you're going to do the trade don't get fleesed
You would be lucky to get a 5th that could move up to a 4th.

This was always the problem with the big money Tua deal. When you spend this much money on Tua, you have less for the supporting cast, and Tua isn't the type that can do it on his own.
The Dolphins have plenty of room to give him more money, hell an extension could possibly even reduce Jonnu's cap number. This is more of a "should they" than a "can they" situation. Dragging Tua and his contract into this doesn't compute.

This literally shouldn’t even be a thought. Taking a QB with injury issues and taking 1 of his 2 underneath options away lol. ****in clueless. I can’t wait to go 5-12 and blow this thing up.
I would point out that we currently have 4 QBs, so losing one of the presumed backups would still leave us with 2 backup QBs. - LOL

I would figure it out with Jonnu. Don't trade him unless you are totally ripping off the Steelers. Tua had great chemistry with Jonnu. Bump him a little with incentives, he played well for us. We don't have anyone but him in the TE room that would start anywhere in the NFL. We can't afford to trade him imo. Pittsburgh will never pay enough to make it worthwhile. Sit him down, make a deal, make him feel wanted. It's almost 6/1 there should be some movement on Ramsay soon if he's really leaving.
It could simply be Pittsburgh inquiring and the media blowing it out of proportion.

Absolutely Grier should listen to any trade offers. I doubt the Steelers would offer more than a 4th? Maybe there's a player the Dolphins would be interested in from Pittsburgh's roster?

But I wouldn't doubt it's amounts to nothing.

So we finally found a TE that McDaniel knows how to get the most out of and creates another weapon on offense, and we know he can thrive here and be a top TE. But you would rather take a chance with Freiermuth which Mcdaniel may use incorrectly like you mentioned with his previous TEs. Freiermuth is a couple years younger and better blocker than Jonnu.....and thats it. Not worth moving off Jonnu who was the most productive TE we ever had in Dolphins history!
Plus Freiermuth is one of the highest paid TE's right now. So this really wouldnt make sense for us. Freiermuth doesnt have the ceiling that Jonnu does in terms of being an actual weapon on offense.
The fact that Steelers are even interested in Jonnu tells you how they feel about Freiermuth.

Why spend top dollar on quasi TE?

Jonnu cannot block, so put another receiver in there (same blocking ability better receiver).

Friermuth is a real TE...Jonnu isn't. Friermuth can block and be a force as receiver.

I'm saying not Jonnu is a bad player, I'm just saying there was reason he available last year for the price. That is his real value. I think you can get the same production or more out of Achane/Wright/Conyers (why he wasn't drafted I cannot fathom) and Ingold (both Conyers and Ingold can block too).

This is another big loss for the anti-Tua crowd.

Smith, much like Mike Gesicki, had his best year with Tua at QB, and Jonnu knows it, he said it himself last year.

See ya Jonnu, Tua will just give another TE a career year instead
Can Tua give the MD a career year? That would be nice.

1st and a 2nd next year and you can have him.

Before everyone blasts me, if Steelers want him that bad, we can make due without a TE until someone on the roster steps up.
Even a 2nd in 2026 seems high for a one year veteran rental, but hey a 2027 second would be just fine too.

I guess my main concern is whether anyone other than the perpetually-injured Tanner Conner has pass catching and YAC potential in our TE room. Don't know if Conyers brings any of that either. We do need a TE with catching chops even if they would only be used situationally (with most packages using the TE primarily as a blocker, a type the team does have in depth with Brien, Rucci etc).

I don't think that Ross is overly patient, I believe that he is just more concerned about profits than owning a true contender and winning. Why else would he keep an incompetent GM, and hire (or allow Grier to hire) four inexperienced HCs, each with less experience than the previous HC? Ross only cares about the money, which is why he has no problem giving up home games to play internationally, hoping to get a Super Bowl in Miami. He wants the money that comes from hosting a SB more than he wants Miami to be in one. And, what owner who cares about his team's fans would build a racetrack around the stadium, taking away their parking areas? Ross is why Miami sucks.

The Dolphins suck because they haven't drafted well for the majority of 20 plus years
I agree with you in terms of Ross's priorities.
I don't think at his age he really cares about exerting his energy into the team because the numbers are green at the end of the year already and he has other business ventures he wants to address
I do think he may also be a victim to emotion such as the San Francisco game this year and the Dallas game last year. If you remember he fired people after getting embarassed by a bad Jacksonville team at home at the end of the 2018 season.
The only times he seems to step in is when the situation turns toxic such as bullygate, when the team was barely warming up under Gase, or the Flores/Tua situation.
I also think he is heavily influenced by Grier, id have a hard time seeing otherwise at this point.
The whole football front office is basically Grier, his friends, and he even has his dad on payroll as a consultant since 2017.
Like someone that has been married 20 plus year he doesn't have the energy to go through a divorce and find someone new.

The Dolphins have plenty of room to give him more money, hell an extension could possibly even reduce Jonnu's cap number. This is more of a "should they" than a "can they" situation. Dragging Tua and his contract into this doesn't compute.
But it's not always about cap space. It's about what the owner is willing to spend. That has limits. Also, they might want to roll money into next season. Extend other people. Nothing is in a vacuum. Have a lot tied into one player, it trickles down. Decisions get harder.

Wrong! What happened to the deep passing game last year compared to the two seasons before that? It was non existent even when Tua played. Ya teams figured out how to defend the Dolphins regardless of how many points they averaged. Plus their offense still struggles against good teams.
You were correct, it is 24.1 points per game with Tua at QB in 2024. That would be good enough for 9th in the league with a bottom 3 OL and a bottom ranked running game.

If the offense has been figured out, being top 10 is still pretty good. Just imagine what will happen if they get better OL play this year, looking at a top 5 offense that the league has figured out.

The highlighted part may be the most stupid comment I've read this week btw.
