Jonnu Smith Trade?

My thoughts are that they are obviously going younger. Smith doesn't fit on top of wanting reworked contract. Its a team transition.

You think the offense regressed because we lost Durham Smythe. You are in the minority on that one, Bud lol. And if you think Jonnu is more replaceable than smythe then that is even more laughable. And stop acting like we are a run first offense, since mcdaniel has been here its clear he has built a finesse offense.

Didn’t say that said it was part of the reason along with tweedle Dee and tweedle dum at guard but also limits and tells play call.

He is replaceable, NWI is just as serviceable as a receiver with a similar if not better pre Miami numbers. Malik Washington averaged 40 yards per game last 4 games when he got playing time. News flash playing behind hill/waddle with achane coming out the backfield tends to help out others if you have a competent run game.

Never said we were run first however having a respectable one is vital to having a solid passing game. You really need to look at our offense and understand it. Your lack of the very minimal understanding is showing. Not even our offense alone, every attack depends on on another or else you end up with stacked boxes or 2 deep all game

Nothing in the way the team has approached this offseason suggests McDaniel is on the hot seat.

I would bet that he’s still the HC in 2026 while Grier is still employed albeit in a different role
Things can change quickly in the NFL. McDaniel needs to have the team ready out of the gate this season. Ross may be patient but I don't even think he would accept another 2-6 start to the season.

They had only so many draft picks and too many needs so I can understand why they didn't draft a TE this year. However I believe the team will be a lot younger in 2026, so more than likely Jonnu Smith will be gone either way. If they can get a 4th or 5th round pick for him now, might as well do it. McDaniel will just have to figure out a way to use other players to replace his production.

It just sucks brother as we have been looking for a very good TE for years.
It does suck but without details I can't say I necessarily blame the organization here.

If Smith is looking, as an example, for a 3 yr extension, for top 10 TE money, then I can see moving him. Too old for a multi year deal, and though his receiving numbers were good, he isn't a great blocker.

Too bad we can't just add some incentives to his deal currently. Produce like last year or better and we'll give you 3mil extra or something. But if we do trade him, getting Washington would be nice. 6'7 265 is a monster at TE. We could really implement some brusing power run schemes with him and Brown, Ingold with Gordon or Wright.

For example: Two TE sets with Washington and Brown, Hill and Waddle on the outside, and Gordon in the backfield. What do prioritize as the defense to stop first? You cheat up to stop the run and we bomb it deep, and if you play the deep ball you give up 4-5yrds per carry. Not to mention Achane and Wright who could explode for 10-20yrd runs at any time.

Or Jumbo set of Washington, Brown with Ingold in the backfield and Hill/Waddle on the outside along with our backs. Things get pretty interesting.

We will see how this goes.

Would you trade Smith and a 3rd round pick to the Falcons for Kyle Pitts? The Falcons would probably balk at that. They would most likely want more and it wouldn't be wise for the Dolphins to offer more since Pitts will be an UFA next season. Better off just drafting a TE in 2026.

I would do that in a heartbeat

I keep hearing the same refrain over and over here from the same posters. That Jonnu is a bad blocker.

Does anyone have stats on this?

He played well last season from what I witnessed.

I’d rather he be catching passes for TDs than worry about his blocking. He’s top 5 for TDs among TEs, correct?

According to PFF he had a 40 blocking grade in 2024. Pretty atrocious.
