June 11th OTA updates

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"Just go about being professional. Keep it as business as usual. Some of our character is going to come out," Anthony Fasano said.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Anthony Fasano singled out the young tight ends, Reshard Jones and Roberto Wallace as some of the top standouts at camp.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Jonathan Martin and Jorvorskie Lane stayed after practice to run wind sprints after practice.Martin is clearly hurting. 1st time in the heat

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
There was a Clyde Gates sighting on a decent catch from Matt Moore. Did solid, but clearly behind Roberto Wallace and Marlon Moore.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyRyan Tannehill sacked back to back plays by Jonathan Freeny. Poor read & blitz pickup.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Ryan Tannehill throw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Fuller during 11-on-11.

Been hearing a few "rumblings" on Wallace. If he can stay healthy and continue to shine when the pads come on he could be a big surprise.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyLegedu Naanee was the top performer during today's OTA sessions. He's earned the No. 3 spot right now.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Don't sleep on Anthony Fasano. His play has consistently been strong during OTAs. Tight ends big focus of offense.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"I got to get used to humidity. I was running back at school, but you can't get used to humidity," Jonathan Martin said of his first OTA.

Ben Volin@BenVolinPBP
Jonathan Martin, attending his first practice of the season, is kept afterward to run sprints by himself. Gotta get in shape

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly"I don't think it will take very long. There are alot of similarities between coach Philbin's offense & our offense at Stanford,"Martin said

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyJonathan Martin said he last played on the right side in high school, but its no big deal. "Just kicking off with a different foot."

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Vontae Davis practiced fully today. Made a few impact plays. Solid work.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Brian Hartline was absent today and it gave Roberto Wallace, Marlon Moore & Clyde Gates a chance to step up.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyRyan Tannehill was the quarterback who threw the pretty touchdown pass to Marlon Moore.

That was the TD to end the practice over Sean Smith mentioned in post 12.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyLegedu Naanee caught a beautiful 30-plus yd pass from David Garrard, who floated it over Jonathan Wade's head. Good deep ball, play on ball

Ben Volin@BenVolinPBPMe to reporter: "Who did you just interview, a left tackle?" Him: "No, that's Jorvorskie Lane." Massive running back #Dolphins

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyFound it interesting that redzone 7-on-7 was going on and Joe Philbin was on opposite side of field watching D-linemen work.

Never heard Wannstedt or Cameron watch the other side of the ball from where they coached as assistants very often if at all. Sparano mostly watched O-line play but I think he watched both sides.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Dolphins rookie Ryan Tannehill did better today than the last time we saw him. Less speed of the game issues today.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyNate Garner was working as the second team left tackle today.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
With Richard Marshall sidelined Jonathan Wade and Nolan Carroll got more work than usual. Both are hot and cold.

Ben Volin@BenVolinPBPGarrard took a bunch of 1st team snaps today, but that's to be expected. And again, Hartline missed practice with a calf strain, that's all

Ben Volin@BenVolinPBPPhilbin says #Dolphins already worked out @Ochocinco. "We're doing our homework."

Ben Volin@BenVolinPBPObviously, the #Dolphins weren't impressed with @Ochocinco enough to sign him on the spot, but they'll keep him in their back pocket

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"We're going to do our homework, investigate," Joe Philbin said of Chad Ochocinco, who the Dolphins DID WORKOUT ALREADY.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Joe Philbin said he hasn't had an opportunity to evaluate Brian Hartline as much as he'd like.

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
"He throws the football really well. His command of the offense is good," Joe Philbin said of David Garrard, who appears to be the No. 1

Omar Kelly@OmarKelly
Joe Philbin said "right now there still a little too much thinking" when asked about the offense.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyJoe Philbin said he's mixing and matching QBs with WRs, and will give a guy a chance to work with every unit.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyPhilbin said Jonathan Wade is having a very good camp, and Nolan Carroll has showed some things.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyRyan Tannehill sacked back to back plays by Jonathan Freeny. Poor read & blitz pickup.

i'm always going to lol when i see a dude named freeny getting sacks for us (and i know dwight spells his last name freeney, yet i don't care. they are pronounced the same) :)

It all sounds good to me. The Jet's S Holmes walked off the field because of having to "work too much" and we have players running extra laps after practice.

I expect M Moore, J Pruitt and R Wallace etc to get a lot of early work to see if they can make it because I think their time on the practice squad is used up. While we did not invest draft picks in them, we did invest a lot of time.

There is certainly nothing wrong with having two veterans that can start at QB and having a Rookie sitting and learning behind them. That is a good thing, to now only have one solid veteran QB but to have two of them depth wise. I'd run the season with all three of them on the team.

I'd give Tannehill the scout team to run and allow him extra time with the young WRs, TEs etc that will be on the practice squad. That way they can improve together and have something going when they work themselves up to be on the team or even starting.

It sounds like due partly to injuries, Lane has a chance to make the team as a part time FB and short yardage back. From what Philin has said, we will not use a FB very much. We are going to be more of a single back, two TE formation team. We wanted another big back in case J Massam does not return from being hurt both to work as a short yardage back and to plug in when we use a FB so C Clay can spend more time at TE. J Lane might simply be a body until Messam return but could very well make the team if he is not able to.

J Lane is listed at 277 pounds although that means little, I'd like someone watching practice to say how big he looks. His stat of running for 49 TDs at Texas A&M is a eye opener.

I think one reason that Jeron Mastrud is working on his long snapping is that we want to carry up to 4 TEs. Maybe Fasano, Mastrud, Clay and Egnew.

Omar Kelly@OmarKellyJoe Philbin said he talked to owner Steve Ross for 30 minutes this week, prepping him for today's conference call with season ticket holders
