This got me thinking about Zach Thomas. All the concussions he had, I am sure he will be having similar mental problems in the future. I hope people look out for him.

Its not that easy. On the surface, to a sane person, it seems like a selfish act. If you look at the act alone, it is selfish. But when you consider the mental illness, the person does not have that much control over the situation. You don't know what it feels like to be controlled by a mental illness.

I doubt this was an "easy" decision for him to make. We weren't inside his shoes nor his head. And yes, condolences to his family.

Sad. He was a joy to watch.

On Goodell, though: his focus on "safety" isn't because he gives a **** about the players. He's said many times that the safety initiatives are about convincing the players the game is safer so they'll sign off on an 18 game schedule.

That's his focus, the 18 games. And it's his focus because Goodell is not so much a commissioner of the NFL as he is a paid representative of the owners, who desperately want those extra games.

I don't mean to derail a thread that should be about Seau and his contributions to the game, but I can't stand when people fall for Goodell's crap.

Ultimately, it is all about the money, but regardless, he recognizes that if the NFL doesn't become a safer league, the league will lose money due to lawsuits. Its not about 18 games. Regardless of motivations, he is trying to make the leave safer, thus why the emphasis on punishments for safety related issues.

Growing up in Oceanside, there's not a player I watched more than Junio Seau. Played Bball games at Oceanside High. Just a tragic event.

Wow I just heard the news. This is just unbelievable. What a great player he was. Definite Hall of Famer. R.I.P. Junior.

Just seen JR on a cooking channel show, about some bar he owned.

As for JR, sorry to see things got so bad you possibly might have taken his own life. May your almighty watch over the loved one's left behind and your soul.
