Just because free agency seems to have slowed, here's a Zach Thomas highlight video.

A ZT highlight real without showing the hit on Laverneous Coles when he knocked him out cold!?

wow almost cried watching both those videos of him and JT. Those were the good old days fellas. What great instincts they had. Those were real football players, the likes of which were are sorely missing now.

Thomas was da man! Miss seeing that guy in uniform on Sunday's.

It's hard to believe the Fins once had 3 potential HOF'ers on their defense at one time: Seau, Thomas, and Taylor.

RIP Seau.

That was one of the most instantaneously momentum stopping hits I've ever seen. It was like Coles just dropped like a sack of potatoes. Not endorsing the effects on Coles, always like him, but just one of those hits that makes you jump back in your seat, cringe and ask yourself if that just happened.

That team really knocked heads back in the day. And sometimes got knocked, Chambers in DEN. Sometimes you forget just how much danger these guys are accepting until a moment like those.

Can you imagine how high the bar for excellence was in that locker room with those 3 guys captaining the defense? I bet other guys on defense found parts of their game they never knew existed.

It's weird when you look back and KNOW how great those guys were only to not be great enough to win a Championship.... then compare them to what we have today. This is the year those "great leaders" need to make themselves known on this team.

I don't think it's talent we're missing now. It's leaders of men.

A GM and HC can go nuts trying to find talent and replace talent, but if they don't have leaders their job is the most difficult task possible. Leaders make everyone around them better. We need leaders.

One more anecdote.

I live out in CO now and John Elway told the local radio that the hardest hit he ever took was from Zach Thomas. He said his teeth rattled.

Wow....and those are some big teeth.

I know many always talk about having an all time great player for their team coach the position he played at, but I really would love to see Zach coaching the LBs. The knowledge and instincts that guy has for that position is mind boggling, and I have no doubt that the intensity would absolutely rub off on the players.
