Just for fun: T-hill Homer vs T-hill Debbie

Are there more Tannehill "Super Homers" or Tannehill "Super Debbies"

I'd have to say there are way more "Debbie's." They are just so over the top and tunnel visioned with their criticism that when a "realist" points that out they call them a "homer."

Tannehill hasn't established himself one way or another yet. He looks great at times and other times looks bad. I do think some of his struggles have to do with poor protection by the offensive line.

I will say this though, there is no way you can really write him off or call for his head at this point. He is one of the better quarterbacks Miami has had since Dan Marino. I think you have to take the ups and downs and keep developing him. You don't develop him for two seasons with above average results just to replace him.

I think there are probably an equal amount. I think it seems like more Tanney Homers because a lot of people don't want to get bashed as haters or whatever. I've been a Homer in the past, hence my 17 badgey thingy. But until he begins to take over games consistently, I'm a Debbie.

If pointing out that he threw good deep balls on 3 of 4 tries yesterday and completed 2 of them for 110 yards and a touchdown makes me a homer, then please label me a homer. And if pointing out that he made two terrible plays scrambling to his right that resulted in a turnover and an almost turnover makes me a downer, then please label me a downer.

The problem with discussion of the QB on this board isn't 'homers' vs 'debbies.' The problem is that a lot of posters don't frame coherent arguments.

Ill say this. I know of quite a few NFL teams that would kill for the chance to develop Ryan Tannehill.

Do you think John Harbaugh would rather have Tannehill or CK?

CK. I'd take CK over Tannehill.

Agreed. In my opinion there are a lot more blind Tannehill homers than there are super hateful Debbies. The Debbies just feel they have to really stress their point and some of them be really annoying because there are a lot less of them and they feel like they need to stress their point. Personally I think both drastic sides are silly. I generally see both sides pretty equally. He is a young growing QB that struggles sometimes but he is behind an awful line with no run game. Hard to tell really

That might be but the Debbies are more Rainmanishly obsessive in starting redundant often worthless and subjectively -based threads, never missing an opportunity to say the same in whatever thread they can that either is pertinent or irrelevant to Tannehill , often more obnoxious and almost always attention-seeking -so regardless of pure numbers, they do seem more plentiful since their din is loudest and most ever-present :idk:

I agree. I think there are a few Super Homers that act like that also. Good example being the recently departed Finjim

It also stands to reason that in today's age of instant gratification, that player won't be viewed fairly by some who have an unrealistic time table for definitive results or who lack an ability to look at the big picture in his development.
And then in the end the issue becomes, in my opinion, whether we really care about what anybody else thinks. :)

Excuse my ignorance - I am foreign. I think that I understand what is meant by a Homer (loyal supportive fan). But I have never heard of a Debbie. (I thought that it was just a lady's name). I presume from your comments that it is not a good thing to be a Debbie and it is probably the opposite of being a Homer. Please excuse my ignorance, this is a learning opportunity for me.

You are correct about the definition of a Homer and you presumed correctly about a Debbie, as in Debbie Downer. A Debbie Downer is a person who finds the bad in every situation regardless of the positive aspects. Homers, by contrast, unrealistically find positive aspects to situations where positives largely do not exist. I hope that you have enjoyed your American forum slang lesson for the day
