Active Roster
well, for the 2nd year in a row, flying down to Miami for the home opener (in this case the actual opener), and once again i leave with a loss. i thought maybe im bad luck, but the fact that they went 1-7 last year at home and now this, its prob not me.
im not gonna go into depth and analyze everything but just a few things.
firstly, our offense. could not have started better on the opening drive. i truly thought that, maybe just maybe, with considering how good our d was supposed to be, and how good our offense looked on that opening drive, just maybe we could have had a good overall night start to finish and would all go home happy. apparently that was not the case.
after the first series, the offense for the most part disappeared the rest of the first half, and people may criticize me for saying it, but for the rest of the game. we did not see that same offense like the first drive again.
our second touchdown was obviously set up by the odrick pick, and henne did a good job getting us into the end zone. although we accumulated tons of yardage, many of those were when the game was out of hand, as i heard on ESPN radio Boston today, mike reiss said 211 of our yards were when the game was a 2 touchdown game late in the 4th.
chad henne did play pretty well though, and what i liked most about him this game was that unlike last year, he was actually moving around in the pocket, and also ran for a good amount of yards and looked like a guy who was willing to take chances unlike last year.
the one thing that concerns me though is our inability to punch it in from short distance. when we were down 21 -14 and had a chance to tie the game from the 2 yd line 1st and goal, i knew when we had to settle for a field goal, the game was over, as im sure most fans thought inside. we just cant afford to do that vs teams like the pats, especially on a night like last night when they couldn't be stopped. overall, this offense has the potential to be pretty solid, but they must get touchdowns when they are that close, not field goals.
finally, the defense. well i don't know if their is much to say about this unit last night. the unit we have been talking about since the off season, how they are going to be one of the elite units in the NFL. well, last night they looked like the worst unit in the NFL.
people can say all they want, o its just one game, Davis, smith, and many of our players were cramping up causing them to miss playing time and have guys like Nolan Carroll have to come in etc, and while all that is true, it is not an excuse. their is zero excuses to give up that many touchdowns and that many yds, especially for a defense that has talked about becoming elite. i know tom Brady is legendary, but its still not excuse. it was embarrassing.
this week , this unit will be tested again. although Matt schaub is far from Tom Brady, as are most qbs, he still is pretty good, and they got the best wr in the league, coupled with a pretty good tight end in Daniels, with a good run game assuming foster plays, our defense will have its hands full. its time to step up your game and show why we should think you will be elite this year.
one game, OK, it shouldn't happen but **** happens. 2 games, it would be very very worrisome and we would be in serious danger. a very bad loss last night as it was a division game, and although its not impossible and anything can happen, judging by our track record in foxboro in December, and the pats track record in December their, many things would have to fall into place for us to avoid being swept by the pats. lets hope we can right the ship, and when we play the pats on Christmas eve, we are on our way to the playoffs and not a top 10 draft pick.
