Kay-Jay Harris

Ive watched Kay Jay at camp and am originally from pittsburgh so i saw him play for WVU many times. Hell of a college back hes 26 so hes matured physically and mentally. Had some problems with injuries at times. I root for a guy like this to make the team. Hes physical big and has alot of heart. Weve seen that sammy morris aint about ****. I would keep Brown, Williams, Gordon, Harris. Sammy and Travis well i might keep travis instead of Kay Jay. My whole point is I think the Morris has the smallest chance to make the team

I would think that Morris has the best chance out of Minor, or Harris. He can play two positions. I don't know where you would think he aint ####? He is a real good backup.

I have to agree with this, at least to the extent that he certainly would have to be better than Minor. I really don't see how Minor makes this team, though. If it comes down to the three of them for two spots, I feel very good about Harris making this team.

When we cut down to 53, Ricky is suspended for four games, so he won't count as part of the 53 man roster for that period of time, iirc. With that considered, other than Brown the backs who are virtual locks IMO to make the 53 are Evans and Morris. The other spot or two will come down to a battle between Harris, Gordon and Minor.

man it's tough cause i like minor i think he is a good change of pace guy really good hands very quick too.kay-jay is good but his hands ain't all that great that is one thing though minor is also a good blocker i belive in saban decision so im sure he will keep the best all around player.......

Ricky counts

It's tough b/c you have to take into consideration the players' versatility, catching and route-running, pass-blocking, and special teams play.
Sammy Morris was originally brought for his ST prowess and Minor can return kicks, and I think it is Gordon who needs to prove something b/c I am not too familiar with his intangibles. I like KJ's potential but he would have to show something on ST to make the team or just flat out tear it up in the preseason and practice. Oh yeah and Minor and Gordon are in their final years of their contracts and I think Morris is too. This could play into KJ's favor.

I'd list them at current backs besides Ronnie, Ricky, and Heath at:
1. Sammy Morris--can play FB and is a special teams demon.
2. Lamar Gordon--untapped potential who has a nice combo of size and speed.
3. KJ Harris--Has good football instincts from watching his college games and very fast and agile for his size. Could be a Moe Williams type as could Lamar Gordon in Scott's offensive system.
4. Travis Minor--Good change of pace back but is in last year of contract and maybe Linehan could use him like he did Mewelde Moore but I think he will be traded or released. Some team could be interested for a 2nd day pick given his speed and lack of wear and tear. Can also return kicks. I think he'd draw the most trade interest, like a 5th or high 6th maybe.

These are some tough choices our coaches are going to have to make. One thing is for sure is we are loaded at RB with great starters and good depth and backups.

Just another possibility on the RB situation...

If Brown comes in late and is not "ready" for the start of the season, of course RW won't be available until mid October, so that leaves Gordon, Brown and Morris. (I figure Morris over Minor because he has more versatility, FB or RB.) If Gordon impresses in the first 4 games with Brown then being able to come on, Ricky becoming eligible...That would leave us two or three more weeks before the trade deadline...any team that is in trouble due to injury or whatever would be looking to pick up a solid RB...Gordon becomes trade bait with KJ waiting on the PS to take his roster spot ??

Sounds kinda "wishful thinking".....but it could happen...

I think KJ will make the PS, but only because we are very strong in the RB area. Personally, I'd rather see him make the team and Minor and Morris gone...Minor has never lived up to his hype and Morris is good, but what we've seen from him is as good as it's going to get, IMO...He can break thru the line and is a tough inside runner, but lacks any burst once thru the line. KJ has more potential and for those questioning his hands, was a very good receiver in college...He'll fit well in Linehan's offense...

Wow, look at all the past Fred Russell fans coming after me.

It's a numbers game, and he doesn't fit in the main 53.

I know what you are saying. However I think he will make it past the first batch of cuts. Morris can also play FB, so I think he is a good #4/5 RB because he can play 2 positions. I think Ricky, Ronnie, Lamar, KJ/Minor, Morris are our RB corps this year. It is a numbers game, and because Morris can kill 2 birds with one stone, I think we keep him so we dont need to tie up a roster spot with a #2 FB only.

KJ and Minor its a toss up. They both are very different but the one thing Minor has over KJ is his kickoff return ability. Who else is going to return kicks besides Welker? Lamont Brightful?

KJ will make it to the last round of cuts if he does get cut. He is a solid RB and teams with RB issues coming into the last weeks of camp might actually trade for one of our backups. We have a very decent corps this year.

I agree with the numbers game, but you are looking at the wrong numbers. Kay jay is as good or better than Gordon for one tenth the cap space. Add to that Gordon can't stay healthy and it is a nobrainer. Gordon will be traded or straight out cut, not kayjay. Wait and see.

In tonight's blog in the PBP, Greg Bedard says that Ricky will not count as part of the 53 while he is serving his suspension.
