Kay-Jay Harris

simply put KJ is a victim of depth. Had Ricky not come back he;d have a shot at beating out Minor, but I doubt he'll beat out H2,Ricky, and Gordon and I highly doubt we keep 4 RBs (unless we keep 1 for STs to help at Wes, and if that's the case I give the Edge to Minor)

see, that's the thing I keep posting in all the different roster spot threads....I think it's possible that we do keep 4 RBs on the acitve roster. That's what Linehan did in Minny, of course they had guys that were day to day sometimes with injuries. They also had to keep 4 because they smartly realized what I already knew...Mewelde Moore is already good with the possiblity of being very very good in that offense.

I think the question is how much does the team like Kay-Jay. I'm almost certain they'll sign him to the dev. squad but if they do they risk the chance of a team like Jacksonville signing him off it because they need depth. I just don't think they feel that way about him right now.

The team may also keep an extra TE or 2 to float for Linehans h-back roll with Evans...Linehan does like to run a lot of 2 TE\H-back sets (that's the Gibbs in him). So because of that we may keep only 4 WR (with 2 on the dev. squad) and 3 RB so we can keep extra TE. Linehan actually kep 5 on the acitive roster in Minny for more than half the season with another one and sometimes 2 on the dev. squad.

My point....until we know how many of each position they will keep, it's too difficult to know who's actually going to stick....unless it's one of the top 2 or 3 guys.

Could we use him as an extra tight end, special teams, running back?

that's what we talked about yesterday...moving him to H-back. But we don't know how consistant he is catching the ball which is a big factor in this offense. We know he caught it well at WV but it wasn't thrown to him hardly at all I believe? WVfan help me out on that one.

I think that last one isnt Kay-Jay... I am pretty sure that it was someone like Quincy Morgan or something. But regardless this guy has some serious power. I mentioned that we might consider having him gain around 10-20 lbs and convert him to fullback. He would be great in goal line situations. I have been at camp, and he hasnt looked bad in practice at all. In fact, he has looked pretty good. We just have so many solid RBs. I garuntee he will get a good amount of carries in the preseason games. That is gunna be where he either makes the team or not, because he will be able to truley showcase his power. They dont go full contact in practice so he hasnt been able to really show his best part of his game. Preseason is gunna be interesting...

It's a good problem to have though, because we are so deep at RB.

Isn't it nice to be able to say this this year?

Its still too bad the only position we don't have depth at is QB. And, I guess CB, but that is not as bad.

not so fast. if we trade gordon then it's wide open again for him to make the team. we will have to see what happens in the coming weeks.

why would we trade Gordon?

off topic:
you know, I think that's actually the problem at QB....we have depth but they are true backups. That's a little harsh though. With all the Dan stuff going on I just want a guy that can come in and be "THIS is my job" and prove to everyone else in the 1st 2 weeks of TC that he's right AND we'll all know that this guy will be starting for us at least until his contract is up.

I've grown tired of QB competitions. We've basically had one competition after another since Dan retired.

We've also been spoiled at CB for the last 6-7 years. we knew every year who the starters were...and they were very good to boot.

I certainly don't want to trade Gordon yet....but.....if we did, I'd try to set up some type of package with jacksonville for Rashean Mathis. That's asking a lot but I'd give it a shot. Mathis is the perfect Saban CB, big at 6-1 and 200 pounds who can play both cover man and zone, and he tackles very well. Actually we likely would have to give up Gordon and at least a #2 to get Mathis so while it's not likely to happen...I can dream :)

our best shot would be to try and get a 3rd from them for him and I think they might do that. A 4th at the worst since the whole Fred Taylor injury issue and the fact that they contiue to play Greg Jones at FB instead of RB (I think they're making a mistake).

But yes, if we traded Gordon, Kay-Jay has a much better chance but even then it's not a given with Morris and Minor still here and eventually behing both Brown and Williams.

If he is any good the Fins have to keep him..One of the other backs have trade value and one has to be traded

kay jay has a good chance..if he does well monday nite, it will increase his chances

It depends on a lot of factors on whether or not Kay Jay Harris will make the team. We don't know Travis Minor's future here, Ronnie Brown still hasn't reported to camp, and Ricky Williams is suspended the first four games of the season. It's way too early to tell or make any kind of predictions of what Kay Jay Harris' future is here. He could end up making the team as our 4th string RB, he could end up making the Practice Squad. I think we should at least watch one preseason game first before making any decisions on whether he'll be on the team or not. And yes I personally do feel that he will be getting quite a bit of reps in the 2nd half of the Hall Of Fame most likely.
