Kelvin Benjamin

Sometimes I wish there were a territorial draft where the Fins have squatter rights on So FL born and bred players. We'd have one helluva team! He's another local kid who played for Belle Glades HS. I wouldn't be averse to grabbing him on our 3rd pick, even if we have to trade up a tad to make it happen.

South Florida is the best territory/breeding ground for elite football talent in the world. It all starts down here.

ha ha i love the move benjamin to tight end stuff...guy plays wr with basically no physicality and you want to move that to tight end...good luck...although that will probably be a fall back if he never learns to use his hands to create separation at wr and use that big body to his advantage and his strength...

a last ditch effort kind of thing...

there's a big differnce also b/t ebron and jimmy graham and this kid...they are used to working around lbs and safeties benjamins used to working around corners...

like i said good luck

It would be almost as crazy as wash out college basketball player that was a backup TE with a total of 13 catches in college wouldn't it? Like I said, it deepened on the system and how he was used. For someone that plays soft he put up pretty good stats and if I am not mistaken tied for third in college football in TD's last year and for most of the games he only played 3/4 of the game.

I am not saying Benjamin should be a top 20 pick this year and more than likely he will be mid to upper second round, but wouldn't shock me if he goes in the first round. Imagine what Bilichick could do with him. We have just gotten used to coaches in Miami with no imagination.

And it's not about a "last ditched effort kind of thing..." It about putting the player and the team in the best position to be successful and if you put him in a hybrid type of WR/TE what does it matter if it's potato or patato if the player and the team is successful?

So now it's a hybrid tight end wr thing...basically a rocked up wr flexed that's not really a tight end...even Aaron Hernandez who was flexed primarily had blocking responsibilities in the box...if he comes down in the box lbs will jam the hell out of him off the Los...

There's talent there but if the hand use doesn't become a part of his game it's not gonna matter...he's not gonna see all those off coverages just giving him the inside in the nfl..

there's a massive transition from working one on one in plenty of space with free releases all over the place against corners and dealing with physical lbs and safeties as a hybrid tight end when you don't even play wr with any real physicality

IMO, the negatives are somewhat overblown. Everybody wants to hate this kid. It's reached the point he's actually underrated in some scouting reports. Sure, he's not elite in any category and he comes across as immature. But the NFL is no longer ultra sophisticated in the secondary. The rule changes allow mediocrity to thrive. Particularly big and talented mediocrity. Benjamin is going to make plays. Florida State was struggling in the game at Florida last year until Benjamin took over. They probably lose the national title game without his contributions in the second half.

If I'm going to doubt somebody, I want him to be small and suddenly rising up the charts. I know I have the advantage there. If I'm trying to doubt a big talented guy who has always been considered a blue chipper, I'm supposed to lose more often than not, and I will.

Benjamin is rated too high for me to get excited about taking him where he's slated to go. I'd prefer several other options, guys who have fallen like Lee, Kouandjio and Van Noy. But this guy will make it.

Actually since I brought this up it's always been a hybrid as I said in the right situation. I have said he should have stayed in school another year. I know you watch a lot of games and you can't deny the progression he made from his freshman year to his sophomore year. Hes a sophomore with only one year of starting. He was leaps and bounds better in 2013 than he was in 2012. He's 6'5", 240 lbs, he's never going to be a crisp route runner that makes sharp breaks and accelerates with one step. He absolutely is not the freak that Johnson is, but the ceiling is so high on him and yes it is a hybrid position. Isn't Graham fighting to be listed as a WR? Didn't Cook want to be listed as a WR? Heck the reason Benjamin says he doesn't want to play TE is the same reason these guys are saying it...$$$$$.

As far as Benjamin in space, he worked the middle of the field. He lined up outside, but worked the middle.

Yeah they want to be called wrs so they can get wr instead of tight end tag money...the nfl doesn't want to open that up I can tell ya that...pandoras box if they do

No doubt he's made strides but there's too much left in his game to clean up or learn for me to use a top 50 pick on him...he starts using those hands and getting physical now you are cooking with gas...then I can see it...should pattern his hand use and physicality after mike Evans...i see it as high risk potential high reward...a little bit of a Stephen hill concern for me here...just from the rawness of parts of his game and will they develop
