Kenyan Drake pulls up with apparent leg injury at end of run at Friday’s practice

Bottom line -- PRODUCTIVITY on the field in college still matters MORE than some flash in in the 40.

I dislike Saban immensely but the douche knows who he can trust with the pig and who's just a flash *big play* in the pan.

Horrible pick. Total waste that only sets the program back yet again.

Should've kept LeMarvelous Miller and drafted a legit G.

BNF.

There's a difference between not having good production because you can't play and not having production because of injury and playing behind a Heisman Trophy winner. Drake is more than just a guy who ran a good 40 time at the combine.

And for the record Drake ran for 1,495 on 233 carries in college while Miller ran for 1918 on 335 carries. So you could argue Drake was nearly as productive in college while having 100 fewer carries. SO if Drake shouldn't have been drafted neither should the team have selected Miller.

Not when the first and second string RBs are fragile and just as likely to be hurt without getting tackled as Drake is.

Yeah good point but they are out there now at least. Either way hope it's not too bad for Drake. Don't have a lot of faith in Williams with his mistakes.

Daniel Thomas isnt good. Has he ever been on another roster?

I'm not gonna argue with you there, but I think he made the Bears???

If he somehow made the team and played well, cool story.....

It's called water and stretching before exercising regarding Hamstrings. Not sure why Hamstring injuries keep cropping up so early? Poor pre-season preparation?

It's pretty hard to compare a guy who is a feature back for his team, which wasn't all that great when he was there, and a guy who gets to play spot/scat duty behind a line as talented as an NFL line playing in college. Even in the NFL there are lots of guys who can put up gaudy YPC as scat backs or part time backs when they don't have to get the blue collar carries that wear down the YPC but move the chains.

I'm all for playmakers, but I am a little disappointed that what this team really needed was competition for Ajayi as a feature back, and instead got a guy who wasn't even that in college and doesn't project out to be either. Good thing we got Foster for the 6 games he'll be healthy, maybe between him and Ajayi we'll get 16 games.

Actually there's some belief that stretching too much is as harmful to the muscles as not stretching at all.

So what we're saying is if Drake had been on the Canes' roster instead of Alabama's he might have been a lead back too and put up decent numbers. We'll see how it plays out. I'm rooting for the kid.

Was going to post this, but yeah, more specifically, the current thinking is dynamic stretching before strenuous exercise and static stretching after.

I said it when we drafted him. I'd be amazed if he's ever consistently healthy enough to play in this league. It's ridiculous to draft a player like that early and then bitch during the season about how unfair and unlucky the team is.

Mogwai - I think that you are correct. Someone senior in the Draft room clearly fell in love with Drake and his upside. My guess is it was Gase and the front office guys like Grier and Tannenbaum then gave him what he wanted. Devontae Booker was also available at the time and he was rated higher on many mock draft boards. Booker was ultimately drafted by Denver. It will be interesting to see who has the better NFL career.

Completely disagree with that assessment.
1 - Drake played 4 years at Bama, Miller only played 2 at Miami.
2 - Drake never had 100 carries in any single season (42, 92, 22, 77). Miller had 108 and 227 respectively.
3 - Miller was "the guy" at Miami, a 3-down back that ran inside the tackles. Drake never showed that.
4 - Miller dropped due to injury concerns......Drake was overdrafted in spite of his.

Hard to compare the 2 Drake missed most of his sophomore year due to the freak broken ankle (that tas 1 of the worst injuries I have seen). PLUS Drake had TJ Yeldon & Derrick Henry to share the backfield with. Miller did not have to share the carries with 2 studs.

I think if he can stay healthy he will be a dynamic playmaker for us!

Kid does have a huge upside. I loved the Drake pic in the draft. If he busts on health issues so be it.

There was one back in the draft deemed a true 1st round talent and Miami wasn't going to draft him. Instead they got the best tackle out there.

I'd rather have a system like Denver in 2000 where it was plug a back in equal 1000+ yards.

So it was clear Miami was taking a back in this draft in round 3 or 4. So the choice really was Drake or Dixon. Either would have been a good pick but neither was a can't miss choice. Dixon might have been a safer choice Drake may have the higher potential ceiling but who knows maybe Dixon goes on to hit solid starter status.

No doubt that Drake was the bigger gamble but with the shelf life of an NFL back equalling less and less by the year and the overall devalue of the position it really is a place where you can gamble and lose and not hurt yourself tremendously.

If this was a first round back Miami gambled on and missed that'd be different but it isn't.
