Kiper on Phins Trading Up

Depending on the cost, I would have to consider moving up for Matthews, not Martin. They say the draft is deep on the OL but, for any immediate impact, the top guys are gone by #19, and the second tier is like gone by #50. After that, it's guys to develop for a year or so.

The top LTs that need the least work are gone. Fortunately, we're not in the market for a LT.

A few years ago Atlanta traded almost everything to move up to get Jones. It worked for them. However their situation was a little different. Jones is a high impact WR and not a RT. Also Atlanta was closer to getting to a super bowl than we are now if we sold the farm on one player especially a RT. I would not trade up this year if I am looking for a RT early because this draft is deep at OL.

I think there is a better likelihood that we don't draft a cornefed at all in the first 3 rounds than us trading up for one in the first. At least I hope thats true.

I was reading a Miami beat writer yesterday speaking about this move with SF. He mentioned based on the value of our 19th pick we could get SF's two second round picks and their two third round picks. This move would take us out of the first round but allow us to add 3 early picks. I would think hard about this for sure.

Oh I forgot. And SF's fifth round pick. So that's four extra picks.

If they trade up for a RT then everything I said about Hickey in the beginning would stand true and this little bit of crow I have eaten so far I can throw back up. Sorry if you are DESPERATE for an elite caliber LT then trade up but Miami signed on the the top LT's in the NFL already.

Who the HELL is Mel Kiper???

Agree on for a RT. Matthews would be different as a RT now but, increased value in being able to move to LT. What about moving up for another like an Ebron, WR, etc. As you had mentioned, there's around 10-12 players in the elite status.

That trade would make a lot of sense as the 9ers are so deep that they may have to cut some of those second and third rounders before the season even starts.

Mort was saying that SF is considering a move way up for a Mack because of their LB problems or, a WR. Also, Atlanta is looking at maybe going from #6 to #1 fro Clowney, and Buff is in the move up mix.

Gonna be a CRAZY draft.

Only olineman I'd trade that far up for is jake Mathews...I'm not sure I'm buying Zach Martin to the giants at 12 either...they have a somewhat undersized right tackle in Pugh already and unless they are moving him to guard I can't see it...I don't buy Martin being drafted to play left tackle...no siree

I think the giants might trump Chicago for a dt...

I'd be relatively indifferent if we drafted Martin at #19. Only OL that may be available at that spot who I could come to terms with (obviously assuming Robinson and Matthews don't drop). No way in hell I'd trade for him though, especially in such a deep OL draft.

Indifferent exactly describes my enthusiasm about Martin as well. I am more excited about the possibility of adding Mosely, Ebron, or Cook. Even safety is he drops.
We can just plug a hole with the last potentially good OL guy, or get a difference maker at another position that will be around the ball.
We should stand pat unless some team is willing to make a great offer to trade down. Trading up would be foolish this year.

I would only trade up for a few guys, Watkins and Mack being two, and that would cost a fortune. I would consider trading up for Ebron to get him before NYJ pick, but other than that, it is hard to justify trading up for a RT/G.

I think I heard the same thing about trading up for Lane Johnson...ha ha if he was here we wouldn't be in this mess...and if you ask me we would have made the playoffs had we added a edge talent like that instead of the slugs we ran out there with...

jake Matthews who played the best right tackle I have ever seen in 2012 if the price is right I'd pay it for him...but for it to be right he'd have to get into the double digits...otherwise it's too pricey...he won't get there anyways...Atlanta if they stay put and can't get a top level edge rusher would run the card up

We should stay put at 19 and let the draft come to us. Even if Martin is there @19 there might be guys rated higher on our board. Let's see who falls our way and let's play some smart poker this time. Maybe some team will contact us and offer us a great deal to trade down a little. Ebron could fall, Mosley could be sitting there, too many crazy things can happen. There's 3 or 4 highly coveted QBs that could go in the first easily. Someone may need to come up and get one. No need to show our cards early. If we have to pick @19 there will be a great player waiting to be snagged. If Martin is gone we can go LBer, wide reciever or maybe tight end.
