Summary: You can't get less sexy on draft day than taking an interior offensive lineman at No. 15 overall, but the Dolphins were clearly targeting their run game. They got Mike Pouncey and then went for running back Daniel Thomas in Round 2. Even without scaring a lot of defenders away from the line of scrimmage with the passing game, the draft paid dividends. Reggie Bush was a key component, but Pouncey helped the run game immensely, and the Dolphins went from 22nd in 2010 to 11th in 2011 in rushing yards per game. Fullback Charles Clay, a steal in the sixth round, was also part of that. Clyde Gates (formerly Edmond) still has a ways to go, but overall, you have to say Miami did OK given the first-year production. It wasn't a great value draft, but the dividends were tangible and -- I'll harp on this again -- it looks better given that this team was far closer to a .500-plus record than many realize. B- initially, New grade B

draft was decent but clyde gates showed me nothing this year, I like what I saw out of pouncey and charles clay, jimmy wilson is decent and has potential, and daniel thomas has a lot to prove

Studs: Charles Clay, Mike Pouncey, Jimmy Wilson
?: Daniel Thomas
Dud: Clyde Gates

Not awful.

Kiper has the IQ of a Potato.
Disagree with his opinions or not, he isn't dumb. Guy has had a very long and lucrative career doing something most of us wish we could do.

gates needs time...he'll help us...i expect us to get more fram daniel thomas next season also...guys got too good feet for us not to...pouncey was terrific...all in all i think we had a strong draft...and i'm hard to please

That's your opinion and that's OK.

I respect hooshoops draft opinion and a host of others more than Kiper's.

Gates didnt get alot of chances..He was not a very good KR tho..Not sure where he stacked up league wise but watching games he was pretty awful. The rule changes didnt help.

gates was playin against not even d1 comp in 2010...he's raw but he can play in this league...just needs time

I was starting to get excited in preseason when he was consistently getting behind defenders. I'm not sure what happened after that? Does he have a problem with physicality/bump and run coverage?

especially considering you were one of the most vocal against the draft in the spring. DT had those hammy issues and really it's hard to overcome if you did what we did to him (play him a week or 2 then sit him a week) we should have let him rest his hammy until he was fully ready.

Gates, I just remember listening to Omar on ESPN radio during the summer saying Gates has a lot of speed, but he needs to learn how to run in pads (saying he ran into the practice wall several times cause he can't control himself)

why? not bashing, just want to know why.
