Knowshon Moreno visits Dolphins/Leaves without deal

we need a down hill runner like blount who can get those tough yards, the ones moreno will not be able to get without fumbling...

I completely agree. But I look at it from the aspect that our first priority is protecting RT. Moreno is great at Pass Protect and Catching out of the backfield. We tend to throw... a - l - o - t. I realize the poor line play made this a necessity because we can't run, but if I'm merely looking at the RB depth chart I see an identity crisis.

In a perfect world, Blount and Moreno would be a great tandem RBBC. But Philbin believes in grooming talent. So that practically implies Miller and Gillislee are safe. Thigpen has ST value. So, for an active game day roster that leaves DT as the only true weak RB Philbin would replace. Removing DT and assessing what we have left running THIS offense, we have a huge need for a pass protecting and pass catching RB. Other than hype and speed, Miller has proven neither are great assets for him. And I feel most of the time we are miscasting him. His physical tools seem to indicate he is the 3rd down back. But his strength is running. However, his running style is the outside speed game. So, with his miscast role and abilities, I agree that Blount is what we need. But we also need Moreno.

In my mind based on abilities, Moreno RB1, Blount RB2, Miller RB3, Gillislee RB4 and Thigpen RB5.

But Philbin's philosophies dictate, Miller RB1, Thomas RB2 and Gillislee RB3. Seems to me Thomas is the only guy performing the worse at his role. But no one can pass protect. So, do you replace Thomas with Blount and HOPE RB1 and RB3 get better at PP and PC? Or do you replace Thomas with Moreno and hope Miller becomes a better power runner?

we don't need a big bruising back to get 1 yard on 3rd and 1. We need an o line capable of getting some push at the line of scrimmage.

It's pretty funny how someone will leave you a no thanks but doesn't post there point of view.:rimshot:

Scared little children who cannot support their answer with fact.

I always found it funny that people "no thank" other people for simply posting an article or rumor. Isn't that the point of this site? To provide topics to discuss? Sometimes I think people are confused about what an internet forum actually is. lol

The people who think the Knowshon wouldn't immediately improve this RB corps really either 1) don't watch football 2) don't understand the football they watch or 3) just want to be negative for the sake of being negative.

As much as you think Philbin believes in grooming talent I strongly feel he may have to forget these values as this may be his final season shot at impressing Ross, so grooming would take time he simply doesn't have.

I would unsurprised if we pick up Moreno as DT has had more than enough to time to be a genuine starter, regardless of our oline issues.

Thanks Nick. My question is he enough of an upgrade to help take pressure off of Ryan, gain enough yards and chew up the game clock when we need to. I know his pass blocking alone is a step up, Let's see if Miller steps up to the competition to who ever is brought in.

Ive seen several comments about Moreno fumbling...he has 2 fumbles over the past two years in about 380 carries. Not really seeing a big problem there.

I also dont get the need for a "big back"....we need a good back in general. If you think that Blount is better...then fine make that argument..thats plausible and defensible. But cmon...Shady McCoy, Jammal Charles, etc are not "big backs".

Not to mention Moreno is 220 lbs...its not like hes a little scat back

I completely agree with your assessment that Philbin needs to bend in certain areas. But understand, I supported the fact the DT needs to go. And I was suggesting that Blount, Moreno and Miller would be the optimum value solution for us. Further implying that Miller has had his chances as RB1 and Gillislee should be kept and groomed.

I agree with you, but tend to believe Philbin has a stronger hold on his job than most, even me, are willing to admit. I truly believe Philbin can survive another non-playoff year. At times, Ross' patience seems to dominate his decision making. He doesn't seem to knee jerk. And his recent announcements to fund the renovations himself makes me believe he is in this for the long haul. His spoken support for Philbin time and time again makes me believe Philbin does have time and will be given more chances than the fans have the patience to tolerate. Ross appears to be a person who supports his own decisions until the bitter end. His confidence in Philbin is a quiet and steady current of faith. I don't see much changing that unless Philbin has a Bobby Petrino moment.

Therefore, I believe Miller and Gillislee are locks. I see the only real change at RB this year threatening DT, Thigpen and RB5.

The way the rb market has gone might get this guy cheap and on a short term deal...ie one or 2 years...
