Of course we expect that from you.

If we had Orton and this thread came up you'd say Daniels.

I still blame the Giants though. We would have had Webster in the 2nd instead of Roth and most likely would have grabbed Orton in the 4th since they were looking that way but CB became a screaming need.

Oh well the way I look at it the team is 5-11 next year. Not high enough for Lienart but high enough for one of the 4 premier LT's in the draft that put this years to severe shame. It should also put the team early enough in the 2nd to trade up into the late 1st to get that QB that usually falls near to the end of the first (Campbell, Brees etc).

Orton would have been a good prospect and earned the Job in preseason. Danials is a nice player but McFadden would have been a better choice in second instead of a DE. Once again a coach no matter how good ignored the QB position so if we don't luck up and Sage shows something we have a long way to go at QB. If I had control I would trade next years # 1 for Phillip Rivers.
I know many will say that we could get Leinhart if we are bad enough but can we afford Leinhart when we can save bonus money on Rivers. Rivers is only sittong bench because Brees has played well. We definately cannot afford another 20 million in bonus money. We have really dropped the ball at QB no matter what anyone on this board says. Frerotte as a starter says we have a starter that no other team would want to start. Danials was not a bad pick but ignoring QB again was stupid.

I understand your point however Campbell rose quite a bit more than fell.

I am salivating over the thought of getting Eric Winston from Miami or Omar Jacobs.

So you'd want Reggie Howard starting with Mario Edwards at the nickel? That's what would have happened.

Hindsight's 20/20 and the team did what it had to at the time. Heck at the draft they though they had the Veteran and the younger guy as it was. Took the preseason for that to fall apart.

That scenario is no worse than starting Gus Frerotte with no future in sight on roster. This probably means Frerotte will start next year unless we sign a free agent. Mc Fadden in second is a better pick than either of the LSU corners. Howard is by far the worst part of equation,

Daniels is starting because he really deserves it. While some feel that Orton deserves it, fact is that he wouldn't be starting without the injury to Rex. We can find our QB next year, but to get a starter at CB in the 4th round is a steal. I still back the Daniels selection.
Well technically you could say Daniels wouldn't be starting wihtout the injury to Poole, but I mostly agree with you.

That's true, Poole is better than Daniels...

Well to get a QB starter at 4 is a better steal considering the cost of drafting one high. As for you quote on finding a QB next year, hey whats another year we have only waited a decade. We will probably go into draft and say that no Qb can help us this year and skip the position again. Gus Frerotte gives us a chance to win now and no rook will give us a better chance. So we should never draft a QB its worked so well for us so far.

Though i wasn't big on Orton in college, i really dont think Travis Daniels is going to pan out into anything really valuable. Orton on the other hand, may have been a really good QB, and with our current situation we could groom him and mould him into something special rather than bringing in free agent garbage like Frerotte or Couch.

So with all this talk of us wanting a young developmental QB, does anyone wish Saban would have taken Kyle Orton (Chicagos starting QB) with our 4th round pick instead of Travis Daniels? As for CB we would have probably kept either Mario Edwards or Kris Richard
Miami fans do not want Miami to develop a QB. They want a star right out of the gate. More or less they want another Marino.

Its too early to tell on either player. If both pan out and turn into quality starters, Id rather have the quality Qb. I understand that our CB situation is rough because of injuries and trading Surtain, but isn't our Qb situation terrible also? Both the Cb position and the Qb situation are thin. If we had drafted Orton, we could still start Frerotte and develop Orton, Im not sure having a rookie Cb is going to be a great situation. He's going to get torched a few times thats for sure.

I won't say Orton over Daniels because our needs at CB were very great and still are and Travis Daniels will help us tremendously this year and future years.

HOWEVER.

I will say that I find myself wishing that the Giants had passed up on Corey Webster in the 2nd round, allowing us to choose Patrick Surtain's TRUE successor in Webster (Daniels will never be #1 CB quality IMO), and then possibly freeing us up to take Orton in the 4th round. That really would have been an ideal outcome to me. I know a lot of people around here like Roth and I think he'll be a solid player for us, but right now he's a luxury where we sure could use a good QB prospect and future #1 corner.

I'm not so sure Daniels starts if Will Poole is heathly.

But the fact that Poole is injured just goes to show how valuable Daniels is to this team. We would be in pretty rough shape at the corner without him. I've been pleasantly surpirsed by how well he has played. So far it looks like our #1, #3 and #4 picks will be starting. That's a decent draft.
