I watched the game in its entirety last night and came away with a better picture of my hated rivals... here it goes

qb: Feeley is bad, Frerotte is decent, Sage and Brock did OK. Until Berlin threw that late pick I thought he be the new flavor of the wek around here... looked decent, if only against 4th string...this is gonna be a problem for you, as you know... you should try to trade for orton, he's gonna be decent.

rb: Sign Ronnie Brown. Gordon is mediocre, as are the other guys from last year. Ricky is a non factor, his head is somewhere else, he's not ready to play, and it dosn't even seem like he wants too... "Ricky, why did you come back?"... "Why...?....I don't know" enough said, he will be a surprise cut, Saban dosn't need that BS.

wr: Thought they may have been the best group of the night... bad QB play hurt them, but Chambers made a nice catch, Gilmore was decent, and with some more training and recovery DBo could be an above average Wr, although it looks like he's not as fast as he was.

te: Donald Lee sucks. Rm will be fine.

ol: not impressed. Carey ws getting beat, lots of pressure on the QB early. They have a ways to go as a whole.

dl: they were OK, not dominant... anyone but the bears could have moved the ball a little better... needs work.

lb: ZT was in on alot of tackles again, Crowder got the start, saw him in there a couple times on plays... he could be decent, but he's raw.

db: worst unit on the feild, your safties were leaving the middle wide open all day, and aside from Madison your corners are gonna get burned... Daniels was kinda slow off the ball , he can improve, but i don't think he's starter material yet...leaving Howard who you will probably all hate and will have many threads saying so...

Young Guys: Roth (like i've been saying) has a ways to go, not the fastest guy around, and he used his only move, the bull rush, exclusivly, and was eaten up by blockers. It looked like he got his Bell rung early in the game. Manny Wright...what can I say...he looked like a fifth round supplemental pick, no big plays, no stamina... the ball would be snapped and he would just dance there, not making any effort at a pass rush... he's a long term project, no immediate help. Crowder will be the best of this bunch if he stays healthy, i imagine he'll supplant seau in the lineup sooner than later. Daniels needs work too, but its early, should probably be a 3rd Cb now, but what other oprions do you have?

Well Finfans, feedback... what did I miss. Honestly, it wasn't a very impressive game (except Orton) I know there is plenty of time for improvement, but i think there is alot of work that needs to be done on both lines and the defensive secondary. Saban was intense, he was getting alot of props... can he produce?

I thought the Fullbacks played well. Heath Evans made alot of plays. Feeley just doesn't have the experience to play. He has a 300 lb lineman comming at him in the open field and he throws the ball to his center??? Dam if you can't juke a 300 lb lineman to buy more time then you're a standing duck. He has no instincts that's his biggest problem and that's why he stays hurt.

Forgot about the fullbacks...they were above average.

That little swing play was probably one of the more effective plays you used.

Feeley had little time to throw, had a few sweet throws dropped and wasn't bad.

OL will take time to learn a new system and each other, we'll be ready for you.

As for the defense, Saban did not game plan. It was vanilla. Saban had then line up and let the play. The defense will look much better when the games count. JJ did the same and we NEVER won preseason games when he coached. So take solace in the way our D looked, but don't act like something miraculous happened after a few games into the season.

The secondary had two-three potential starters not starting. We also had a few guys with injuries not playing. They are also not playing a game plan, they were just lining up. Additionally, they are learning a new system, especially Madison who blitzed by a RB who had a huge gain. That would have been a 7 yard loss.

Orton was great for a guy that played against 3rd team  Honestly, I don't think he did better then Brock. Give Brock a few more snaps and take away that interception with the no huddle clock running down trying to make a play INT and he was awesome.

looking forward to critiquing the awesome 9-7 Bills and there awesomely stuffed with talent defending 3rd place dominating standards.

I was not that impressed with Orton. He was playing against our 3rd and 4th string DBs. As you even said that is our weakest part of the team. So our scrubs of that department are well... terrible. His wr's were wide open. The one time he was pressured he threw a pick.

Otherwise, you are pretty much right on (god it kills me to agree with a Jills fan). However, I will state it was JUST the FIRST preseason game. So there is still a long way to go. I got the impression Saban was just going to play everyone and kind of see what he has. Which I think will be the point of the whole preseason.

I think the first couple games will tell more about the quality of this team.

This game should quiet alot of FIn Fans, but it was only Game 1 with a new coach and a lot of new players.

They have 4 more games, and Im sure things will come together. It took the Bills 4 preseason and 4 regular season games to come together.

I didnt see as much talent as I thought they had, But I do think they will come around.

The QB's look alittle weak. But GF looks like he will take chances and with your 1 on 1 players like Chambers, McMichael, Boston, and Brown (once he signs) I think GF will put the ball up for those guys to make plays. But, I think GF could be a guy that has 20tds and 20 int's. I dont think he is safe with the Ball.

You guys can critique us next week when our game is replayed on NFL network. Its always great to get an outsiders opinion.

R. Williams did not run well at all. the first guy to touch him tackled him. he looked slow and not his former self. but this is just a preseason game.
Gordan is average. but better than the other RBs.

S. Madison missed a HUGE tackle on the RB, just horrible. the RB got ~15-20 yards, by simply running right by him.

the O-Line. where to begin. HUGE PROBLEM. not really the tackles as much as the C and OGs. i saw several times where they doubled a D-Lineman insted of picking up a blitzer.

Gus is SO LUCKY the blitzer jumped at the ball in the endzone, insted of taking his head off. that should have been a HUGE hit and safety.

DBs got beat deep A LOT. but the bears QB couldnt hit them to save his life. the 1st deep completion to m. Muhammad (sp?) at the 2 yard line should have been called incomplete. (i think he only got 1 foot in bounds). i saw atleast 2 other times in the 1st quarter alone where a guy was WIDE OPEN deep, 5 yards past the closest defender. but it was grossman, so did you really expect a completion?

WRs, not to bad. alot of drops by the second stringers. Dbo looks slow and small. (i guess a lack of steroids will do that to you).

Kinda like Losman, except less TD passes right?

Look...I'm not jumping on either side of the bandwagon based on 1 preseason game. What we look for is improvement. I expect is to continue working and getting better as the preseason goes on. If we look like that after game 4, then I'm going to be worried. We came in with vanilla protection schemes, offense and defense. No gameplanning was done.

There areas that need to improve and their is some cause for concern (offensive line and secondary). But I am not jumping to any conclusions yet either way.

to me it seems he COMPLETLY missed that tackle, and got juked. from what i remember, he saw the handoff, and came running into make a tackle, not blitzing the QB. "would have"... more like he "should have".

This is really showing the intelligence of Bills Fans......they are quick to judge a team on one preseason game!! Most intelligent football fans know that it is impossible to take anything solid from the first game......coaches just want to see if the team competes and then they don't want anyone getting hurt! Go back to your own site! We will be sure to come over and critique every negative part of your opening preseason game too....wait a minute, I can't do it because it means nothing!!

Yeah that was atrocious and vintage Sam Madison. I hope that when they look at the film, Saban rips a whole in him the size of a Ford Focus. You'd think that after all these years he'd learn how to tackle. :shakeno:

this is the first time you get to see your team on the field. its only natural to look at each player, and see there mistakes. you just dont like it because you didnt like what you saw.

Brilliant post dude... you're right, you can't tell anything from the first preseason game.

Since it was so meaningless, and you're an intteligent football fan, you probably didn't even watch it...

Come'on man, you know you're full of it... let me ask you this, if it was week one, would that have made manny right any less of a slow, out of shape Dt, or made Reggie Howard or Daniels any faster....

The things I saw aren't gonna be fixed by september.

The words "lossman" and "expert" should never be used in the same sentence, unless the word "jackass" is at the end of it. :p

JK..

I pretty much agree with you.

I think it's hard to really evaluate the HB's, except for blitz pickups or lack off, because the OLine is just not creating any kind of holes for them to exploit. A RB can have vision, speed, and agility but he can't create holes. So Ronnie Brown coming to camp, while important, I don't think will give us a noticable instant upgrade in the running department.

We are running a new O system with about what 2 weeks of practice? It showed. People didnt know their blocking assignments, RB included.

I am worried about our run blocking. But I have 20 more games to wring my hands over that :).

I thought the assessment from the bills fans were right on. Why get upset at them?.. makes no sense. The team needs a lot of work there is no doubt about that. Hopefully by mideason we can get a little chemistry and see what happens.
