L7's expert insider evaluation...

I watched the game in its entirety last night and came away with a better picture of my hated rivals... here it goes

qb: Feeley is bad, Frerotte is decent, Sage and Brock did OK. Until Berlin threw that late pick I thought he be the new flavor of the wek around here... looked decent, if only against 4th string...this is gonna be a problem for you, as you know... you should try to trade for orton, he's gonna be decent.

rb: Sign Ronnie Brown. Gordon is mediocre, as are the other guys from last year. Ricky is a non factor, his head is somewhere else, he's not ready to play, and it dosn't even seem like he wants too... "Ricky, why did you come back?"... "Why...?....I don't know" enough said, he will be a surprise cut, Saban dosn't need that BS.

wr: Thought they may have been the best group of the night... bad QB play hurt them, but Chambers made a nice catch, Gilmore was decent, and with some more training and recovery DBo could be an above average Wr, although it looks like he's not as fast as he was.

te: Donald Lee sucks. Rm will be fine.

ol: not impressed. Carey ws getting beat, lots of pressure on the QB early. They have a ways to go as a whole.

dl: they were OK, not dominant... anyone but the bears could have moved the ball a little better... needs work.

lb: ZT was in on alot of tackles again, Crowder got the start, saw him in there a couple times on plays... he could be decent, but he's raw.

db: worst unit on the feild, your safties were leaving the middle wide open all day, and aside from Madison your corners are gonna get burned... Daniels was kinda slow off the ball , he can improve, but i don't think he's starter material yet...leaving Howard who you will probably all hate and will have many threads saying so...

Young Guys: Roth (like i've been saying) has a ways to go, not the fastest guy around, and he used his only move, the bull rush, exclusivly, and was eaten up by blockers. It looked like he got his Bell rung early in the game. Manny Wright...what can I say...he looked like a fifth round supplemental pick, no big plays, no stamina... the ball would be snapped and he would just dance there, not making any effort at a pass rush... he's a long term project, no immediate help. Crowder will be the best of this bunch if he stays healthy, i imagine he'll supplant seau in the lineup sooner than later. Daniels needs work too, but its early, should probably be a 3rd Cb now, but what other oprions do you have?

Well Finfans, feedback... what did I miss. Honestly, it wasn't a very impressive game (except Orton) I know there is plenty of time for improvement, but i think there is alot of work that needs to be done on both lines and the defensive secondary. Saban was intense, he was getting alot of props... can he produce?

Trade for Orton? Crowder being raw? Daniels could get better?

L7, when do you sign your contract with ESPN?

L7 ... I'd disagree with your assessment of Wright. It seems like he was one of the tackles getting the big push that influenced the INT of Orton(?)

I hate Feeley, so its hard for me to see him in a good light... my best friend is a FinFan (ironic huh) and he was pro Frerotte from the get go...

Bottom line, if you honestly think Feeley is a long term answer at QB, then you'll support him, but if you feel like you'll need a "QB of the future" next year, Frerotte gives you the best chance to win THIS year.

i'm not sure if he is the long term answer...could he be...i hope he can.

but he needs some help...an o-line that can block and a decent running game...i think we'll be improved in both of those areas this season...i guess we'll wait n see but i don't think you can base your judgement on feeley on what he did last season...we had major problems on the o-line and our running game was pretty bad.

go fins!!!

You might be wright (ba-dum ching) I tivoed, i'll take a look...but...

that was early in the series, he was playing for the first couple snaps, but then he was worn out...

if you watch him on the longer drives, it seemed like the ball was snapped he would just stand up, put his hands on a lineman, and shuffle his feet til the ball was thrown...

Saban needs to whip that kid into shape if he's gonna be an impact player... he did look intimidating though.

1. Wright looked way way out of shape. This will be fixed however.

2. Why is everyone hating AJ?? I'm not ready to give him the starting spot yet but he did move the ball some and might have scored if not for a dropped ball. Let's see what he does in the next few games b/f cutting him.

3. I watched the O-line again on Tivo. The starting center and tackles were ok and will probably get better. The line needs to learn each other and blitz pickups. Do you really believe Houcke will not teach them these items?

4. Wr's looked pretty good. Given time we can pass the ball well.

5. We are thin on good corners. We will have to scheme to cover this weakness the best we can. Daniels should be decent. Howard looks like Fletcher of old. He worries me. This position worries me.

6. RB's will be fine once brown is in and ready to go. RW's will be decent.

Thats gonna be a hard sell for me... every interview, he is more out there... he dosn't want to play, its about the 8.6 million and there is really no heart in it...

i'm telling you, this guy is gonna get cut...

You guys say "We won't trade Ricky, he helps the team more being here than being traded for a low pick"

Unless he gets his head into it, and gets back into football shape, "best for the team" is gonna be not in the lockerroom... Saban dosn't need to deal with BS, and Ricky isn't gonna be around long enough to make a difference IMO.

While I'm still sticking with my assessment that if Saban gets this team to .500 he is a miracle worker, I think we will see some improvement in the next few games. I am trying to keep things in perspective:

1. Chicago was going all out to win last night. They were throwing all kinds of blitzes at us, and I'm sure we did not prepare for that.

2. Our O-line will be much better once they have a chance to jell. I was very glad to see Hadnot in there.

3. Frerotte looker better than Feeley and has a good pocket presence. I have been pulling for Feeley, but in all honesty Gus looked better even though he was going against the #2 D most of the time he was in there.

4. I thought our D would be our strength this year but I am VERY concerned about our secondary. We showed nothing last night, and to make matters worse we had no pass rush (except when we blitzed) to help them out.

All in all I think last night was a reality check for all of us. Just my opinion, but Madden was right--we are in a very tough division and not likely to drastically improve our record. I for one am tempering my expectations and hoping for 6-7 wins.

I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, I think we'll have to watch Feeley give it a go over the next few weeks. You know what it boils down to Phins?? Frerotte is another Fiedler. I know that's risky to say it, but Fiedler didn't have a cannon, he avoided sacks, and he was careless with the ball...That being said, Fiedler won us some games by eeking it out. Just making some short, executed passes...15-25 yards max...no deep threat ever...overall, it was our solid D that put us in good position to win. That's what I feel like Frerotte gives us. Solid QB play in terms of getting some yardage...but no real play maker ability. Feeley could offer that, but he's just such a head case at times. There is no denying that he dances around back there...holding the ball for way too long...and then going down or throwing a pick. He needs to take a few hits and realize they're not going to bust up his pretty face too badly, then get over it and play some ball. Overall, I think Feeley has more raw talent, but Frerotte will get some stuff done. That's it.

You might be right, only time will tell. RW is definitely weird but he has always been weird. It seems he is practicing hard though. He has always tried hard on the field and at practice. I still think he has a chance to contribute to this team. Hopefully not at the expense of the locker room.

That's what I've been saying for months...I'm very happy to see some of you finally coming around to realize that it will take SABAN some time to make this happen. Not this year. Nope. We'll finish with 6-7 wins if we get lucky. I'll support Saban until he does it because I know he will eventually. He's disciplined. He's determined. He's smart. Those equate to SB winners eventually. They just do.

I think one thing Saban is going to have to learn is patience...

He's been a winner his entire career... but it may not come as easily this time around. i don't know how he deals with young players, but he's gonna have to have everyone on his side if he wants to be successful.

Hopefully now Wright will try to get into shape because he knows that he can't do much while out of it. Ricky did bad, but he always does bad in the PS games, so i'm not real worried about him. The OL needs to improve ALOT and i hope that they can gel together within the next few weeks. Ferrote proved that he can lead a team in the game and Feeley just needs to step up when there is a blitz. I think that we should prob sign a good CB to maybe start with Madison because Howard can't do anything and Daniels can't do much. Gordon is a major dissapointment because he can't decide where to go and he isn't quick enough to go through the whole. Both Berlin and Rosenfels did good in the game. Turk did good and Jones seemed like he outplayed him alittle. But overall, we still need alot of work to go to the top. I can't wait to see what our offense and defense will really look like, because that wasn't it.

Forgot about the fullbacks...they were above average.

That little swing play was probably one of the more effective plays you used.
FB's were terible in pass protection in the first q.

Same old story, no respect, no hope for a better season. It's kinda depressing, that is, if you give a ****taki what these haters have to say. I sure don't, considering nobody's opinions affects the teams we like.

I've said it 45 million times, and I'll say it again. Hall of Fame Game. Preseason. Doesn't count. Starters played 1 quarter. Easy playcalling on O and D. To sit back and criticize this game is ridiculous. No gameplan = who cares? Wow, people who hate us seem to be having a great time. The goonie Jets and Bills fans on here, the media, everyone else.

Blah, least my Spurs get respect. :D
