Same here, and posted a link explaining that the paying of the signing bonus is not paid in full at signing but, pro-rated, which I did not know. That was what raised the question.
I missed that link, but is it reliable? I thought the whole point of the signing bonus was that it was paid upfront. I mean, if you see the contract pages at overthecap there are columns for roster bonus, workout bonus, and even other bonus, all of which are delayed payments, but the prorated bonus, as far as I know, is a one-time payment that is divided by the length of the contract for accounting. And viceversa, if it's not prorated, then it isn't paid at once, but at different times: hence the roster bonus, workout bonus, etc. The whole idea behind cap trouble is that prorated bonus cannot be eliminated from the books at all, only accelerated.
To push the point further, if it were possible to do this teams would use it, if not often, then at least sometimes, sending veterans at bargain prices, or why not, veterans plus picks in return for lesser picks and eliminating prorated money from the books. The fact that we haven't ever heard of this thing being done to me is proof enough that it cannot be done at all.
