La Canfora: Ochocinco wants to join Dolphins/Will work out this week for Miami

Why not? Because he sucks. Just because he talks trash, doesn't mean he's good. Just because he's so arrogant, he changed his name, doesn't mean he's good. If he was going to succeed, wouldn't it be with Tom Brady? Remember when moss who was a problem went there? They scored like 50tds. Chad Johnson goes there and he has what? 15 receptions? He couldn't sniff the field over a white WR that is four inches shorter. Does that make sense?

The patriots are one of the best talent evaluators in the NFL. They rarely make mistakes. And they are going to release him? Think about that.

A look at their list of second round pick over the last five years would suggest otherwise.

Chad's skill set is perfect for this offense. I just hope he can learn it. He is a great route runner and if donald driver can still put up numbers in this offense at 36 then chad can too.
On the contrary, although he always possed a high skillset, he has never been known as a great route runner and tends to add lib quite a bit on his routes. This may have something to do with this recent revelation with his inability to learn the offense, which is why New England cut him. Not to mention the fact it seems as if his skills have diminished some. I believe Chad may have been a more viable option when Marshall was still on the team but not so much at this point of the game.

I'm very surprised Miami will work him out. This meeting makes no sense and I believe it to be just a courtesy to Chad, or maybe some other angle. I don't think this workout is sincere by Miami. If we wanted a vet, Donald Driver is available and he already knows a WCO. Could Ochocinco really pick up the WCO if he struggled in NE? I doubt it.

Driver restructured his deal last week so he could remain in Green Bay, so he is not an option for us. I personally think the work out is sincere and that there is probably a better than 50% chance they sign him. If he works out that is great, if not they can just cut him before the start of the season. No harm in signing him and taking him to Training Camp.

For one year with no real guarantees, why not?

Besides, the Dolphins (or whoever else signs him) could possibly be his last shot in the NFL.

Why not? Because it takes a roster spot away from a young WR who could develop into a significant contributor in the near future.

Even at the veteran minimum he will have a cap number over a million. The Dolphins may need to sign a free agent later on because of injury. The Dolphins may want to trade for a player before the deadline who will have to be paid.

He is too old! It would be a waste of a roster spot and money, and it would stunt the growth of younger players who need the snaps in games and practice.

IF Miami gives him a contract its for an HBO storyline to make the reality show more interesting. Not for football reasons.

So you truly feel that if Ocho ends up on the Fins roster it's because Ireland & Philbin wanted to make a TV show better and not because they wanted to make the team better?

since we didn't see chad play last year it's hard to say. can he really be that stupid about learning playbooks?

Sure. That's the ENTIRE premise behind Hard Knocks, and we know where that is headed.

You're putting the cart in front of the horse.

The REASON we didn't see Chad play last year is because he is too stupid to learn the playbook.

My opinion on HK asside, I don't believe either Philbin or Ireland would choose Ocho to make a TV show more entertaining... If he ends up on the roster I fully believe it's because they think he'll make the team better (whether that's with yards, TD's, or hoping his work ethic rubs off)

Nothing wrong with competition.....give him a shot, lets see what he has left.........

1) Chad is not a diva. He loves twitter but he is a genuinely great guy and good teammate. Stop saying that. Perpetuating a ridiculous notion.
2) Philbin has admitted multiple times that the Green Bay offense was fairly simple compared to others. Chad Johnson runs really good routes, has reliable hands, and has always was able to get separation 15-25 yards downfield.

Chad is the epitome of DIVA. Cmon, he is an attention WHORE that is all about Chad first, and whatever else second....oh wait, his name isn't Chad anymore........did he officially change it on his diva-syndicated reality show? I don't remember...and to be honest, never really cared enough to try to keep up.

He had 2 pretty good years in Cincy, and those days are way way way behind him.

I'm sure the Phins will indeed bring him into camp for a look...and his entire enterage will be there....and I doubt he makes it to the regular season.
