La Confara: Nolan Carroll to hit free agent market

We have not done a good job extending impending free agents and now we could see prices jacked up for guys we'd like to keep. I don't want a whole new cast of characters.

If Miami would have kept Dansby, Bush, Long and Burnett (not a stretch), this is a playoff team in 2013, period. Miami left $18 M on the table of cap space. Not to mention it would have been simply cheaper to go with the old linebacker corps, with better results.

We have to get out of the habit of losing a bunch of guys which then offsets the addition of new talent, at net neutral, every year. Keep your core guys you have developed. Build your nucleus, then add to it. Over time, you'll be good.

Everybody say "clean house" when they want a new GM. That means more than just the coaching staff. A new GM want to build the team the way he wants. You will see alot more turnover with a new GM than in the past when Ireland was resigning his own guys that he drafted. Sure Hickey may like some but the guys he doesn't he wont be willing to pay for when he can draft guys that he likes. As well as Hickey and Philban already have a better relationship that Ireland and Philban, so Philban may have more insight on guys that may not fit his vision too

I know that but the problem is we cannot afford to turn so much of the defense and then have problems on both sides of the ball. Personally i dont think Philbin will be able to survive it and it doesnt make to much sense.

They drafted two guys high last year and signed Grimes so i believe they were looking for a replacement for Carroll anyways. The rooks did not play and Nolan was better so I'm not sure which way they go.

Also not sure how much we'll miss a guy who's biggest claim to fame was being tripped my a Jets sideline coach :idk:

The only market I worry about drying up is LT. If Pitta is re-signed, the Ravens could tag Monroe. Albert and Anthony Collins are the only starting LT's left. McKinnie? Morgan Moses at 19?

I believe Hickey said he was going to let them test the market but give us the last chance to offer more.

i believe this is the notion going in.

So all this talk about soliai, grimes, ect. is just letting them test the market to see their value. Smart if you ask me. How many players have done that to us?

I wouldnt do that to Grimes though. I just have this really horrible feeling that our defense is going to take a step back if we let them walk, but we will see what happens.

Carrol is better than both of them, which isnt saying much for Taylor and Davis.
I hope he doesnt resign. Taylor and Davis need expanded roles and unless they decide Carroll is the #1 guy because Grimes and others cost too much i rather have Taylor and Davis as the #2 and #3 corners.

Carrol is better than both of them, which isnt saying much for Taylor and Davis.

He also has 4 years under his belt. Carroll was horrible in 2012 but with experience he got better. With some playing time under his belt Taylor could be a #1 and Davis a #2. Carroll will never be more than a #2.

Id pay Grimes they extra money you would give Carroll and go with the young guys.

Carroll is seriously underrated. He has improved every year and last season responded to the additional responsibilities when Patterson got injured.
Nolan is a smart, high character guy. He doesn't have the natural skills that Grimes possesses, but he competes 100% of the time. Memo to Hickey, we need him back, don't let him go.

i would be careful overpaying for nolan carroll - and that's what it will take to keep him in miami - because i could easily see him pulling a reshad jones.

let him walk. He's a back up and nothing more. He got a little better last year but that's not saying much.

Ozzy rules!!

Good. I hope some team takes him off our hands and we either draft or sign a capable defensive back.

I wouldn't mind Aponte giving him a low ball offer to stay. That is all he is currently worth.
Regarding the 2013 CB's, are they any good? Can they play in the NFL?
My fear is that Ireland blew last years draft and those 2 guys will never be players.
