LaCanfora reveals finalists for Dolphins GM job

I just do not know about Hickey. Farmer I would most def. give a shot to and I think he might add some veteran FO help to his quest.

Gaine…people know how I feel…just the best fit.

Source tells me that one of the candidates who sat for an interview believes Ray Farmer will get the job. Peterson ties are strong.

Jeff Ireland was once seen as the hottest young scout in the NFL and was seen as a huge get for the Miami Dolphins. Just remember that

This is what I always come back to, bar gamble I cant tell much of a difference between any linked candiates, hotshots for jobs like mcdaniels and ireland fail as often as underdogs

Interesting reaction, At this point idk what names you expected...

I get your point though, its all a bit meh... xanders struck me as boom or bust. Farmers has a decent rep at least

Xanders and Licht were the only candidates I thought were any good. Both have College and Pro Scouting experience. We are bringing in PRO SCOUTS. Not someone with extensive experience scouting college. Those guys work in PRO Personnel not College Scouting. You build through the draft. There is carryover, but not all scouting is created equal. Yes these guys are Assistant GMs, but they lack experience in college scouting. Having said that... it's the Dolphins... With Ross the owner and you have to be force fed the head coach.. Who was I expecting, Eric DeCosta?

Gonna be Gaine....because Ross is too lazy and stupid to make a real change!

At the end of the day we really don't know how any candidate will do.

The Green Bay Packers were lambasted a few years hiring a head coach based on the loan fact that he was friends with Bret Favre. Everybody laughed that the new head coach was the OC for the 32nd ranked offense. That coach was Mike McCarthy.

We don't know dick, until results come in. I will just point to this forum's euphoria after we hired Bill Parcells.

All candidates deserve a chance to prove themselves. Who knows, they may surprise you

We're just hiring Farmer because of Carl Peterson...

Out of curiosity what exactly is the difference between a good pro and college scout? I would imagine a lot of the skills apply both ways?

I hope we can manage to pull off the Farmer/Xanders team which strikes me as a coup, farmer is a polishes media guy and I like what xanders has done in the draft. Not holding my breath though

very similar feeling to Miami missing out on Jeff Fisher, and hiring Joe Philbin over Mike McCoy. And I think this will have similar results.

Now that is something I would love to read... though I imagine it has all been lost by now

Pro Scouting Departments, scout Pro Players in a pro setting. College scouts try to project what College Players will do in a pro setting. Night and Day difference. Pro Scouting is much easier. College scouting is so crucial. Pro Scouting is overrated. Look at the Packers since Ted Thompson took over. The only free agents they have brought in are Charles Woodson and Jeff Saturday. Pro scouting is not nearly important as college scouting. You build your team through the draft, not free agency. There are things that college scouts know that pro scouts will miss, like Alabama players have already hit there ceiling once they get to the NFL and have no real upside.
