Hickey is a long serving Tampa Bay employee who I understand is very experienced in the analytics. He probably has a total different skillset to the other guys. I can see smart people like Philbin and Aponte liking a highly analytical guy.
Somebody reported that Farmer is extremely religious (Christian) and he likes to recruit players with similar beliefs and has had success with many. However, Stephen Ross is Jewish and probably is very wary of appointing anyone with a strongly religious agenda. My experience with successful Jewish businessmen is that they would be very wary of their business being strongly aligned with any faith, particularly one that he does not believe in. If Farmer is as religious as has been suggested, I can see Ross looking elsewhere.
In stating these points, I do not want sidetrack the GM discussion into a question of faith. I just point out the differences.

Possibility: Farmer becomes GM and Gaine gets a promotion. Make him VP or player personnel or some such. That would fit with Ross' MO.

LaCanfora hasn't been right about the Dolphins since forever. That being said, Farmer has been consistently mentioned in connection with this gig, so I do believe he is the front runner. I actually hope it is him. I could live with Gaine because it would be easier to jettison the whole thing next year if they fail hard. PLEASE NO HICKEY.

and they came into the Packers together. It's easy to bitch, and also understandable. But the fact remains, we truly don't know how anybody will do
