LaMicheal James was released by the 49ers (at his request) and then cleared waivers. Why didn't the Dolphins pick him up off waivers? He went to Oregon and the Dolphins now run Oregon's offense. He is a bit on the small side, but he is a definite upgrade over our 3rd running back. He is also an excellent kick returner. I live in Eugene, Oregon, and watched him play every game for the Ducks for three years against tough Pac 12 competition and he was awesome. Bummer, we could have picked him up off the waiver wire. He was definitely worth a low risk - high reward flyer. We can still sign him as a free agent, but now it will be hard to keep him away from Chip Kelly and Philadelphia. What do you think?

I think there is a reason he cleared the waiver wire for all 31 other teams.

He left the 49ers because he didn't WANT to be the 3rd running back. Why would it be any different here?

Agree with the OP. James has to be an upgrade over Darkwa. I think teams just figured they get him at a better contract after waivers. He's on a team in a few days, if healthy.

Methinks you significantly underestimate Damien Williams' potential. James may be a reasonable kick returner but I kind of like Williams as a physical RB on our depth chart. I wouldn't make that swap. BTW - Damien Williams is about 30 lbs heavier than LaMichael James.

I was wondering how long it would take before this showed up here.

Just run with what we have for now. Draft Gurley next summer, resign Moreno and then Miami looks real solid at running back with a corp of Gurley, Moreno, Miller and Williams.

If we're drafting high enough to draft Gurley...I think QB will be the higher priority.

Ooh, burn. Yet so true.

Despite the recent trends of RB's sliding in the drafts, Gurley will go way higher than where we'll be drafting. Or so I dearly hope.

If Chip Kelly wanted him, he would have claimed him. He's not an upgrade.
