just a few days ago, people here were saying, "to hell with brown.". "we dont need him." "we dont want to pay him a huge contract."
then you sign him and everyone is happy.
now benson is still holding out, and its "headcase", and "we are lucky we didnt get him."
i didnt see any numbers in that article. maybe the bears are just trying to lowball him.
i blame the bears organization. not Benson. i feel bad for him, to be in this situation. cus the only real options for him is to eather sign the low contract, or sit out the season.
Dude, no offense but from your post I think it is obvious that you are not following the Benson case very closely. Nor were you following the Brown case very closely. There were some people that created threads on the board talking smack about Brown's holdout but I dare you to find anyone who talked smack about Brown and now is happy with Brown and talking smack about Benson. Sorry, but they don't exist. Don't confuse a few people with the sentiment of Dolfans everywhere. Generally Dolfans everywhere wanted Brown in camp but were pacified by the intrigue with Ricky Williams and other stuff, and also Dolfans in general sensed that the reason the negotiations were taking a while is because the Dolphins were lowballing Ronnie due to his being a RB.
And as for Benson, I can't speak of the offer that the Bears have on the table because I don't know the figures, but I know for a fact that one MAJOR hangup in negotiations is the fact that his agent wants Benson to be paid more than what is commensurate for the #4 pick in the draft, BECAUSE last year Phil Rivers was paid more than was commensurate for the #4 pick in the draft.
But the reason Rivers was paid higher was because of the strange situation with him being traded for by the team picking #1 in the draft. And even that was a weak argument. Benson's agent is trying to pretend that from here to eternity the #4 pick in the draft should be paid higher than the #3 pick in the draft, because of what happened in ONE draft with Phil Rivers.
He's wrong. Absolutely, positively wrong. There is no basis whatsoever for that argument. If the Bears are lowballing Benson and now taking a firm stance on their low offer it is because Benson's agent FAILED to negotiate in good faith with the Bears, and therefore a normal give and take could not take place.
