Late Saturday Practice Report

Where's Hadnot? He can play center and looks like a solid O Line prospect.

Hadnot is practicing at first string RG. I think he'll stay there. Houck should think about plugging St. Clair or W.Smith in at center.

Of the guys who have been held out Vonnie Holliday and Eddie Moore ran well and looked great. Both look like they are ready to come back, which makes our defense even stronger. Chester, on the other hand, won't be in shape for a long time. He is very overweight.

I'm excited about our defense, just wish Will Poole wasn't injured. We definetely need more depth at corner, but Travis and Sam will be great starters for us.

I heard a rumor that Will P. will be back after 8 weeks and he at camp now on the bicycle....is that true??????

Summary - Overall, I like the 2005 Dolphins. We badly need a center on this team to make the offense work. I'm not real worried about the QB spot, if we have a good center to seal up the middle. Except for center, the offense looks very positive and with Linehan and Houck leading this group

hmmm hadnot at Center

Rex Hadnot Center Houston
Year: Sr Height: 6-1 Weight: 310 40: 5.25 Hometown: Lufkin, TX
Positives: Rex is a powerful center. He has good structure and balance. He uses his hands well and his weight to over power his defender. Could also play guard. Is versatile. Really good in helping the run.

Negatives: Rex does not have good speed. Most of the time he has to rely on power and push, and after that he doesn't have the speed to go down field and continue with a block. Is still very raw. Needs to find a way to produce better agility to be more effective and a complete OL in the league.

Bottom Line: Rex is in a bundle of centers that could be taken anywhere from mid to late in the draft.

Good report. Thanks.

I think it's worth noting that Chester being out of shape is largely due to the fact that he couldn't do much physical activity recovering from that ACL tear.

Also, Hadnot would need to lose a good bit of weight to get to 310. He started last season at 340. He's listed at 325 now. I'll bet that's the minimum he weighs.

Muck, you're really being too kind to Chester. You're right, his injury hasn't helped him, but Chester is really overweight and looked awful running with the other injured players. It's hard to believe that a guy who can make millions playing football could let himself go that badly, especially when you know he has all the help in the world at his disposal.

With the depth and competition at DT, Chester may have eaten himself out of a job.

Great report-thanx-hasn't been much the past couple days-re: the comments on this post...you do tend to be positive-not that that's a bad thing-nice to hear the positive things for a change-bet if we had another Saturday report we could hear about all the missed passes, drops, missed tackles etc

good info but...who starts at right guard if Rex is at center??!? St Clair? Whitley?? Huh Hudson Houck? Anyone know about Hadnot's ability with line calls and blocking schemes? That's as much about playing center in this league as pass and run blocking...

St. Clair entered the draft as a center also. The top rated center at that and then somewhere down the line St. Louis turns him into a RT. I think St. Clair who I think is listed between 310-325 LBs could make the switch. And if Hadnot made the switch to C I think Wade Smith or Damion Cook, St. Clair, or even McIntosh could play RG.

I know one thing we have depth like never before on our o-line AND our d-line.

GO PHINZ!!
