Lazor's Offense compared to Sherman's?

Just heard the news and I'm glad we got a younger guy. Hope his work in Philly is an indication of goody things to come.

My only negative up to this point is his association with UVA. Great campus, horrible football program.

The other thing I wonder about is since he ran the ball 50/50 to pass, will RT be behind center as much as in shotgun. Because the thing I was pissed about was being predictably in shotgun way too much particularly when the OL not very good. Sherman did not utilize RT's talents from behind center to keep the defense guessing.

We don't know. At UVa he took over a team that was dead last in the ACC in offense and got them up into the top 3-4 in the conference. He did that by running a three headed quarterback attack. Hoops can tell you more -- he's not a fan, though.

He's worked under a bunch of different coaches, WCO Air Coryell, etc. My guess is that he will adapt to the personnel, rather than trying the square peg round hole thing.

I realize you wanted hoops to reply to this, and I'm not him. So I'll keep this short and sweet.

At UVa Lazor did a great job. The talent was mediocre in some places and horrible in others. He put them in positions to succeed. His best work was with the pocket passers. His OL was the strength. He used his RB in a variety of ways to get them space to run, and he threw to his TE's and RB's enough to take some pressure off his WR's, who were subpar. The QB thing was because none of the QB's really were particularly good except Rocco. The head coach didn't want Rocco to be the QB, because another QB was a big re-recruit and the coach wanted to establish inroads with other recruits with that coach and in that area. So, the head coach repeatedly gave that formerly highly rated QB prospect another shot. All it succeeded in doing was to break Rocco's rythem and undermine him with the team. Rocco eventually got fed up ... but not at Lazor. Lazor brought out the best in Rocco, and put Rocco in positions to succeed. The bottom line was that the head coach squeezed Rocco out with his constant insistence on giving his prize re-recruit a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, ... 84th chance. It was farcical.

Let Lazor play Rocco all the time and that offense hugely overachieves. But, that wasn't Lazor's call. In Miami, Lazor will be working with a faaaaaar more talented QB in Tannehill who has the accuracy, intelligence and work ethic to take advantage of Lazor. We will be improved.

I think he will definitely utilize his players strength as well as put them in the best position to succeed. Last season I really wanted to see Wallace put in motion much like the eagles did with D-Jax and that never happened. I can't wait to see how he incorporates what he learned under Chip Kelly into this offense. One thing is for sure though is the talent on the Fins o-line has got to get a lot better. I really hope they bring in Xander as he has shown he has a great eye for offensive line talent. I also can't wait to see a sneak on 3rd or 4th and short. I'm sick of that ****ing fb dive crap.

That makes me a bit more optimistic, thanks. I'm really not sure what to think of this hire. I do know that a lot of people not connected to the Dolphins apparently think really highly of Lazor and Detroit fans seemed disappointed that they missed out on him.

I'm just not sold yet.

I have heard that at UVA he liked to utilize his tight end quite often. Whether that was more due to necessity or design I'm not sure but I'm curious if he will try to push for amaro or Ebron

Excellent and my thinking as well. But, given the choice: What do you do with only one pick?

Draft the TE Amaro or Ebron or the Top-Rate OL-men?

I'm pretty happy about Lazor because he seems to be the type of guy that adjusts the system to the personnel, rather than being inflexible. The ability to be flexible in your schemes is what separates great coaches from good coaches.

I am excited to see if he delivers on the two most important points I took from his comments. First, A clear vision of how our offense should look. Second, An offense built around the things each player does well. We have not seen an offense like that for a very long time.

The question really is "do you want the 3rd or 4th best O lineman in the draft or the best TE"? The answer is "whoever most improves this team". Unless Matthews or Robinson take a tumble I'd jump on either Ebron or Amaro.

Until we get a McCoy, finfan54, or a RB that deserves 20+ touches, and an offensive line that can block I dont see how Sherman could line up any other way. Could you imagine what the sack totals would have been against the Jests and the Jills with Tannehill predominately lining up under center?? Those d lines were creating confusion all day and that was with Tannehill five yards deep when he got the snap...
