Leadership, not talent, the issue for the Miami Dolphins

Both, but the anti-leader is still here so ...

The issues are talent, owner, logo and stadium.

Several uncertainties. I may doubt the upside of Philbin and Tannehill but we'll let it play out.

Some would have thought that the O-line and too predictable playcalling were bigger issues than the logo, owner and stadium.
Personally, I don't think that the logo is an issue at all. Stephen Ross has only made a few key decisions. The biggest being cutting Ireland and appointing Philbin and Hickey. Philbin needs to make the playoffs this season or he's gone.

Ross has owned the team for 5 years. He chose to extend a coach he tried to replace( love his logic that nobody outside of Harbaugh was an upgrade lol) He also extended Ireland without any real reason. He basically stopped the coaching search while Fisher made up his mind. When he fired Sparano he had a perfect chance to place the gm he wanted in charge but he stuck with the guy who built this non playoff team. Had a ton of cap room last year but screw it let Ireland spend it how he wants it instead of a gm that might possibly have a real vision. He then fumbles his stadium plans by trying to bring last minute legistlation that even makes their plan legal. Then the gm search where he basically had to take someone who would accept the job. He then decides to hitch his wagon to Philbin so that any gm that wants to come here is stuck with his lame duck azz.
Im not down on Hicky I think he may be fine but something really doesn't sit right when a team that hasn't had a winning season in 5 years hires their gm from a team that hasn't had a winning season in 3.

If leaders try to inspire their teammates and everyone on the team knows that they really have insufficient talent, that attempt at inspiration will ring hollow.

Got any objective evidence to back up your claim? Otherwise its BS

That statement makes no sense. So that means that only people that are the most talented can be leaders. A leader on a team is not based on how talented they are.

I totally agree. Especially on defense! The d had apparently no real leaders at all. I was hoping that ellerbe would step up but I don't think that's gonna happen. We need at least 2 veteran leaders on defense. We need our ray Lewis. Doesn't have you be that talented, bit needs to be there in the huddle to fire up the guys and lead when times get tough. We obviously lacked that last year and I really believe it was the major reason why we lost 8 games. We could've been 11-5 if we had defensive leaders and a leader on the offensive line. Poincey needs to step up but I honetsly just don't think he has the character to do so.

Oh bull****! This team lacks talent. Leadership doesn't change the 1-on-1 battles. We are losing those all over the place.

To you, because you didn't understand it, apparently.

The point is that leadership among the players works because leaders inspire their teammates to give their maximum effort. If the players on the team know, however, at least on some level, that the team is insufficiently talented, then those attempts at inspiration will likely ring hollow.

The team has to have sufficient belief in its own ability, based on its talent, before "rah rah" can have any significant effect. Talent is a prerequisite for leadership to have the effect it can.

The best way for a team to have a legitimate belief in its own talent in today's NFL is to have a quarterback who can win games. That's where most of the variance in winning and losing is found. We might as well focus on how this team is functioning at quarterback currently, and what needs to happen to make that improve, before we start focusing on emotional and intangible variables such as leadership, since the team needs to believe in itself talent-wise, first.

Philbin doesnt seem to want leaders. He wants followers. Those who follow him. Having selected players wear a "C" or their jerseys goes against what he wants.

1. Talent
2. Coaches
3. Owner
4. Attitude of a Champion
5. Stadium
6. Logo
7. Uniforms
