The entire division is bad at drafting it seems. 4 team sample size here but it seems skill player rookies nowadays only get extended with their original teams if they're elite or above average, while non skill player rookies get extended if they're at least solid. New England seems to have a tendency to trade mediocre draft picks before their rookie deals end.

Before NYJ and BUF took QBs last draft in RD1, I find it a joke that both of them and MIA never made any serious moves to get a good QB to combat Tom Brady and Belichick in NE from 2013 to now, Though Buffalo did draft EJ Manuel and Miami was/is waiting on Tannehill who was drafted in 2012.

New England has Belichick and Brady and a sustained foundation to endure bad drafts. The rest of the division is held back from a never ending cycle of bad drafts, coaching changes, and musical chairs at QB and lack of being able to coach up and develop players. Such a shame.

This is interesting - very underwhelming drafting by all parties.
It’s hard to say whether players a team draft that go to another team indicates that maybe they just didn’t fit that scheme...but if you draft players and they’re not even on a roster right now in a 5 year span...how bad was that pick?

I always find it interesting how average to below average New England’s drafts are. Just goes to show how far a HOF coach/QB tandem can take you.

Yikes. All four teams have missed on boatloads of draft picks the past several years. Difference in NE, compared to the other three dumpster fires, is they've had a Hall of fame coach, QB, and TE to cover up said warts.

I think if you expanded the list league wide you would see similar results with 80 to 90 % of the teams. I think part of the issue is that players get so over hyped during the draft process that the odds are they're not going to live up to the billing. I always find it amazing that each year peope will look at players in each round and say how these are must have players and then the next year people look at those same players and say they wouldn't trade a current draft pick for the player. For example people will say player x is a must have in the first or second round this year, but next year if you suggest trading a 2nd or 3rd round pick for that same player people will say he isn't worth it.

Nailed it. A significant part of any draft is LUCK. Not saying some aren't better evaluators than others, but luck is still there. TO me, there's a difference between no longer on the original team Khalil Mack(sp), no longer on the original team Dallas Thomas, and no longer on the team Jordan Phillips. Players still in the league show, at a minimum, the draft pick is good enough to stay in the NFL.
My compliments to OP in making this a 5 year list to overcome one bad or one amazing year. OTOH, 5 years includes picks by Ireland/Philbin which doesn't quite apply. Nonetheless, a quite revealing list and another post showing how some people trash Miami for something as if the other 3 teams don't have those same flaws.

Excellent post OP...thanks for sharing.

You never know how things will work out and this list shows how random and uncertain the NFL draft is. I wonder who has had the most success in drafting? I'm guessing a Seattle or Pittsburgh, but might be an interesting exercise in the future.

Very interesting....

I think it’s funny how Miami has two TEs drafted in the 6th round by Buffalo and New England on their roster doing better than their own 2nd round drafted TE lol

Very interesting....

With Seattle it seems they constantly had bad drafts after their Sb loss to New England, and probably why the Legion of Boom is dead already. Richard Sherman has known to have spoke out about the bad drafts several times during his career in Seattle.
