Linehan makes me sick

My biggest problems with fiedler is what Gus is showing: Missing wide-open WRs deep and leaving big opportunities on the table. I can't f--ing stand that when I see it. Yeah AJ thows more pics, and I can't stand that either, but I think he takes better advantage of easy opportunities. Considering the talent we have at WR (Booker in higher spirits, Boston returning to health) and RB (especially their receiving skills) my guess is there'll be more open guys and we can't afford to miss easy Tds. i also think AJ is better in the red zone (he had a couple real nice throws for TDs within the 20 last year). That said, I cringe when the ball is on our own 5 and AJ is at the helm.

His accuracy leaves something to be desired, but there were also a few easy drops. I think he had an off night after starting well, but so did the receivers. He steps up in the pocket well and has good velocity on the ball.

Gus is going to be our starting QB week 1. Linehan's got his back which makes it very evident he's our guy (for now).

Listen to his press conference.... He speaks as though Gus is the next Peyton Manning...... stats dont matter, QB rating doesnt matter, Gus is "exactly where we want him to be".... only one bad decision with the INT..... OH COME ON! Just say it Scott, Feeley is better than your man from minnesota!

I for one dont care about the stats, i want to see what QB has the best performance and will be able to lead us to victory. I dont think either of these guys do, but what can you say about Linehan? I mean he's not going to come out and say, "Yeah well Gus is having an awful pre-season, and Feeley is not much better. This team needs to find a quality QB because these guys cant get it done". I'm not going to smash what Linehan says because most coaches do the same thing, and sure i would like to see both of these guys be more productive but when it comes down to it i want to WIN football games, and i just dont think we'll be able to with these guys.

The problem with Miami fans is that they are use to having a Dan Marino in the back field and like the team ...use to him carrying the team! And like the team you have to learn that one man isn't going to win it all for you. We don't need another Dan Marino (While it would be SWEET if we had one) we NEED team effort and unity,we need the o-line to protect whoever is the QB. Look at teams like the Bucs and Ravens they didn't have star Qbs and there's a few teams that have made it to the play-offs with average joes. I'm sick of "FANS" shooting down this team before they even get a chance to succeed or fail..actually stop and think about the year they had and all the BS they went through with Dan backing out, Ricky retiring,Boston getting hurt and not to mention the season! Everything is new ..give them a chance to get it together and let's start acting like "Fans".

Gus has had to stick in the pocket longer to throw much longer passes way more than Feeley has been throwing. Which means at least he has gotten away from the blitz well and gotten rid of the ball. You still cannot honestly say that about Feeley when his abilities have been covered up with short stuff and two step drop stuff.

There's another way of looking at this. One could argue that Feeley is making a quicker read, and delivering nice, safe completions before the pass rush is a factor. Feeley has played well enough that he deserves a chance to prove himself playing with the first team offensive line and the first team WR. As it is now, why would he want to hang on to the ball and try to make a play downfield, when he's got guys like Taylor Whitley protecting him, and Maurice Mann and Danny Farmer trying to go deep? Hanging on to the ball could be a recipe for disaster in those circumstances.

And I don't really care about long incompletions. AJ has a stronger arm than Frerotte. I'm sure that AJ can overthrow his receivers as well as Frerotte.

There's something else, too. If people pay attention, you'll notice how often Feeley hits the receivers in stride. He even did this last season. Frerotte's completions have been a lot more Fiedler-esque, with the balls being too high, or behind the receiver, not giving them a chance to do something after the catch.

Good points. Fiedler hung out the receivers more than a few times, and that tends to stall the drive.

Gus is going to start on Sep. 11. When the OC makes excuses for the 1st string QB's below average performance, you know he has already been chosen as the starter.

I do think the quarterback position contributes to some degree because as we learn and grow -- in some cases at quarterback where we have one guy that has more experience in the system and it's affected him a little bit in that maybe everybody else hasn't caught up to that. In another case, we have a guy that's kind of learning and growing in the system and is getting more confident as he goes.''

Basically saying Gus has an advantage because of knowledge of the offense....but AJ is getter better as he learns the system. Why not allow him to play and learn on the field. This team is still a couple years away from a Superbowl run so why not let AJ learn on the fly? You will know for certain if he can play and at the least you are in position to draft A QB high next season. JMO

What I have noticed is that recievers are not reading the defense like Gus is and they are not turning around to see the ball coming. On the long one to Gilmore, he wasnt fast enough to get downfield, which is why you will see more of Welker.

Gilmore is, at worst, our 3rd fastest WR. Chambers is faster, and Boston can be faster, when he's healthy. The book on Gilmore throughout his 5-year NFL career is that he has very good speed, but inconsistent hands. He's without a doubt, faster than Welker.

So it's the receivers' fault that Gus is overthrowing them? Are you kidding me? This clown - sorry, our NEW COACH - just said that Frerotte is not to blame for his pathetic play.

I'm not going to go in the season, knowing full well that this defense isn't as good as those 2000 Ravens and 2002 Bucs and knowing that both our QB's aren't very good and still put the face of "we're going to be a good team this year, and maybe make the playoffs if this guy can do this". If Orange were Yellow and Teal were Pink we'd have the gayest looking uniforms in the NFL. While i'd love to see the team do well, i know that they aren't going to make the playoffs and they probably wont compete to make it. This season i want us to show signs of improvement, stop making dumb penalties, stop making careless and stupid plays, stop allowing sacks. I want us to be much better than last year even if our record wont show it. Then i will have an opptomistic outlook for the future, but i and many other Dolphin fans aren't going to go into the season thinking "If this guy does this right and this guy plays this way we're going to the Super Bowl" well i know darn well it's not going to happen.

This ignores one absolutely critical point.

Gus has not been able to complete passes. I don't care if his "reads" are good. How you determine that is beyond me, but regardless, Gus simply hasn't completed his passes. He can be making good "reads" all season without completing a pass. By this logic, we should wheel out a Nobel Laureate, because making good decisions is apparently more important than being accurate. Gus might throw down the field, but he's been successful what - once or twice out of 10 or 15 times?

A.J. has been steadily improving since last year in making reads and completing passes. That's not an opinion. His numbers back this up. There is no way I would take a guy that completes 40% of his passes over a guy who completes 60%.

This is simply the next step for the Gus supporters. Everything else seems to have been abandoned. Knowing the system? Feeley has put up better numbers, so that's out the window. Some still cling to the second-string matchup theory. Now it's on to some vacuous "decision-making" intangible.

What will you try next? Maybe Gus needs some counseling?

He throws to his primary receiver everytime or he dumps it to the back. That's it and that's not enough to be a decent NFL starter. I supported AJ when he got here, but he hasn't improved in this important area. Gus' problem is timing with his receivers. This problem is easily corrected. I mentioned this in my original post so I didn't ignore it. It seems you did.

A.J. did improve. How you can say he didn't is beyond me. He threw one interception in his last three games. Sacks are substantially better than interceptions, unless you'd rather have the quarterback heave it up for grabs. Besides, as I've already pointed out, Gus has been sacked four times to A.J.'s one so far, so I won't buy into that.

This whole timing issue is garbage. Why does Feeley have the timing if he's just not that good? You're taking your presupposed conclusion (that Frerotte is better) and manipulating the data to support it. If Frerotte continues to do this in the regular season, you'll come up with another reason why he needs to stay.

By the way, Gus's problem is that he's been a mediocre quarterback his entire career.
