Link to ireland stating he will help choose starters!!

He did say it would be a collaborative effort. Aside note: Philbin said he will only wants players with high character. Too bad that can't be said of the GM.

To be honest besides you who cares? Between the GM and HC they will find starters...........done.

It's not a matter of who is finding starters it's who is selecting the starters. Big difference, I guess you fail to see the importance of that. Why do we need a coach if Ireland will be handling what is traditionally the head coaches responsibility. You will care when it becomes an issue with the players.

Ireland shouldn't have any say who the starters should be. That is the head coach's job last time I checked.

I just don't see coaches like Mike Sherman, Kevin Coyle and even Philbin letting a punk like Ireland push them around.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who see's this as dysfunctional.

he IS the boss, I don't think they'll be telling him to F off

Show me another team where the GM has ANYTHING to do with selecting the starters. Ireland's head is getting too big.

ANDY: how about speaking for yourself. you may not care, fine. I DO!!!!

this is a big thing and one i feel is going to be questioned and panned far and wide. between the gm and and hc they will find the starters? when have you EVER heard of a gm telling a coach or coaches who will be starting? that is the job of the h/c and his assistants and position coaches to decide that. you know, the guys who create and put them through the drills and the questions and situations in the meeting rooms?

the guys who watch them in drills and practice to decide who is starting material? those guys?

i doubt ireland could sit in a meeting and draw up one play on a chalk board or overhead. i bet if you sat him down and asked him who is responsable for the TE on a zone blitz he couldnt tell you. and HE is going to tell the h/c which guy should be starting on game days?

your better than this ANDY......

Which is probably why what you heard was not meant to be interpreted as literally as you seem to be.

I doubt Ireland will have anything to do with picking starters once the team has been assembled. He probably means picking players that will hopefully BECOME starters.

Ireland also said the coach can make a suggestion about where a guy (Jerry) should play, and he'd be right behind him. Huh?

Every HC candidate whose personality approached the brashness of Ireland didn't get the job. No surprise. This FO only has room for one alpha male, and apparently it's Jeff. Ross either doesn't understand this dynamic, doesn't care about it, or he approves of it.

Ultimately--and in my opinion--there should be only one voice about who plays, where they play, and when they play: the head coach. The GM should find players to be coached and then butt out. It's a player/coach relationship from that point on.

It was literal, the response was directed toward a current players status on our roster, not potential players to be picked at a later date. Listen AGAIN.

Thanks for seeing the importance of this, I don't know why the media hasn't picked up on it.

I'll listen a thousand times and you still won't be able to convince me that you knew exactly what someone over the radio was thinking when they said something that, regardless of your interpretation, can be an open ended statement.

But, hey, you go ahead and get yourself REALLY worked up over it. Cause that seems to get a lot accomplished.
