Link to ireland stating he will help choose starters!!

Why Would Ireland not behave this way. He is bulletproof and thinks he is indestructible. He will find acorns and make them the starters if at all possible, expect to see most of his draft picks make the team and quite a few Picks and FA pickups will start

Dont know why, but this subject reminds me of the situation in the movie Moneyball...

That is called job security my friend. Look, all my draftees are starters. I must have done a good job! (as Ross pats his back) atta boy!

ANDY: how about speaking for yourself. you may not care, fine. I DO!!!!

this is a big thing and one i feel is going to be questioned and panned far and wide. between the gm and and hc they will find the starters? when have you EVER heard of a gm telling a coach or coaches who will be starting? that is the job of the h/c and his assistants and position coaches to decide that. you know, the guys who create and put them through the drills and the questions and situations in the meeting rooms?

the guys who watch them in drills and practice to decide who is starting material? those guys?

i doubt ireland could sit in a meeting and draw up one play on a chalk board or overhead. i bet if you sat him down and asked him who is responsable for the TE on a zone blitz he couldnt tell you. and HE is going to tell the h/c which guy should be starting on game days?

your better than this ANDY......

Okay I should have included you in the 'who cares' comment. This is something said that has been completely taken out of context to what was meant and thrown on this forum to inflame the Ireland hate.

Do you really believe Ireland is going to tell the HC of the Miami Dolphins who to start on gameday? He will pick players to be starters and the coaches will start the best players.

Ireland stepped in it throughout the interview. "We" coached him (Jerry) at the Senior Bowl last year. "Collective effort" to determine starters. Head coach can make a "suggestion" about where a guy should play. Arrogance first and foremost, but oblivious to the lines that must be respected between the job responsibilities of coach and general manager. Not every GM gets to tell the coach what to do, or has the power to fire him. Ours does. That's important.

The rest of the league thinks there is something very dysfunctional about our front office, and we continue to churn out evidence that it's true.

I'll listen a thousand times and you still won't be able to convince me that you knew exactly what someone over the radio was thinking when they said something that, regardless of your interpretation, can be an open ended statement.

But, hey, you go ahead and get yourself REALLY worked up over it. Cause that seems to get a lot accomplished.

Doesn't matter what I thought he meant, he said what he said. Dosen't seem to leave much for interpretation. "Will that be coach Philbin's final call wether he is a starter or not, or, is that your call"? Here comes the answer "It's a collective decision making process"
Now that is in direct response to the question- Will that be coach Philbin's decision or yours.
Collective: of or characteristic of a group of individuals taken together: the collective wishes of the membership.

Collective= Ireland AND Philbin

You made the point right there. Jerry did not start last year so was this Ireland's decision or the coaches and why did he not start if Ireland drafted him to start?

Members on this forum thinks this not the rest of the league.

The media constantly makes mountains out of mole hills and they haven't even picked up on this. I have a feeling it is more about your hated for Ireland and nothing else.

I'm not an Ireland *****. I actually think he is a good talent evaluator and has done pretty well for us. I just thought it odd when I heard the quote, so I posted it. So don't sit there and accuse me of having an agenda here because I don't. I am not biased against Ireland, I just don't think he should have that much power. Sucks to get bashed for being the messenger. This is why I don't start many threads, better just to troll the site.

How the hell can I hate Ireland, I don't even know him. I've ALWAYS supported him here. Just passing the news.

I think this is overblown, but heck that's not surprising in the offseason. It will ultimately be Joe's call on who starts, but I think it is a collaborative decision because they have to be in agreement of who is starting so Ireland knows if there are needs to add to the team. For example, if Philbin is dead set on starting Matt Moore, Ireland has to agree with that and make moves that don't affect that decision. You don't go out and sign Peyton Manning if the head coach is set on Matt Moore, so I think that is ultimately why it is a collaborative decision. It is not Joe saying that Nate Garner will start at LG, but Ireland says "No you are going to start John Jerry."

I am not losing sleep over an unclear comment that can be argued either way and was hard to hear anyways because of the wind. Not a big deal, but those who want to make a big deal will.

I did not mean for this to get overblown, I simply repeated what I heard on the radio yesterday and got slammed for not having a link. I was accused of making it up, so today I found the link and posted it. I am only delivering the news. I only posted this because I thought the statement was odd and I was taken back by it, so you may all take it for what it's worth. This will be the last thread I start on this site.

My comment wasn't directed to you, but to the subject. I personally don't have a problem with you creating a thread and proving what you heard. I applaud you for backing up your previous thread. You posted what you heard, I personally just think the interpretation of what Ireland was saying was off.

Well for a guy who says he's just passing the news, it seems like its pretty important for you that we all see that news YOUR way...
