Ray Guy for the Raiders was known for consistantly punting the ball out of bounds inside the 5 & 10 yard line, it was extremely effective, and momentum breaking. There are good things about doing that and bad.....when you are always trying to kick it out of bounds, you also never will get a chance for a turn over, but I still would rather have a team pinned.

Punters will practice kicking the ball out of bounds, but like was said by a previous poster it depends on field position. If you are deep on your side of the midfield stripe you try to kick the ball as deep as possible and let your fliers and special teamers do the rest.

Guys get this...a bills fan is trying to tell me that when an NFL team punts the ball, the objective of the punter is to kick the ball out of bounds. Isnt this absurd...no matter what I tried to tell him he wouldnt listen. I was like WHY do you think the punting team rushes to the ball as fast as they can to surround it? Because theyre trying to let it ROLL all the way to the endzone and get AS CLOSE as it can get. Sometimes they even grab it because they dont want it to get inside the endzone or it becomes a touchback. He wont listen until I provide proof...can any of you guys give me something to show him so he knows the strategy behind punting? A link or something? Stupid bills fans are ridiculous...haha

the objective for a punter is always to GET THE BALL SPOTTED INSIDE THE 10 YARD LINE anyway he can. period.
