Looking at FA for the all-important backup QB position

I strongly doubt if any pocket-type QB would do well in our system.
Honestly, I believe that it is so heavily tailored to Tua's strengths, anticipation and accuracy, that few could run it even remotely well.

You can't really change your system mid-season because you're gonna start with a bunch of undersized, but very quick 'skill' players, and a zone-blocking line... and these guys do what they do.

So... I'm going to bring in the best running QB I can find... I normally would not go this route, but with our offense, I think a waaaY off platform guy gives us our best shot.

Now don’t laugh, but hypothetically, if Grier succeeds and actually upgrades the offensive line with some good players who can stay healthy, then perhaps any QB behind that theoretical line wouldn’t have to get the ball out in 2.4 seconds?

I know, I’m trying to keep a straight face as I write it, but that could be the plan, whether they succeed or not…

Huntley ain’t it. Sign a vet and invest a 3rd, 4th, or 5th round pick on a decent developmental prospect.

He’s fine as a third string. The talent in this qb class is extremely weak. Very few guys worth developing.

So, your face is normally crooked? - LOL

It too hard say. that class is weak. Washington and Denver is back in playoff w rookie qb play. I didn't expect Nix to be that good. Keep taking chance. The nfl expert don't know who is going be good in nfl. Size spd and can throw football good.

Howard is becoming more and more interesting with each playoff win.

I know he's not considered to be a quarterback that can take over games, but he's reading the field well, and making good decisions. He also moves pretty well and is 6-4, almost 240.

Both Howard and Leonard are guys if you want to develop would be interesting prospects. Both have good size and can run with the ball. You could almost put a short yardage package in for them on day one.

If they draft a QB there are a few that are intriguing for development. Here's the order I like them in right now.
McCord
Rourke
Dart
Howard
Leonard
Cook

He’s not good enough. we can do better. maybe in the draft class, maybe pick up two veterans as Kyle Crabbs suggested, someone like Andy Dalton and then as a second pick up someone like Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Easton Stick or Zach Wilson. You could probably pick up Dalton for $5 million per and one of those other guys on a multi year deal for like $3 million per. That’s the kind of upgrade we need for our QB room. It’s critical if you have injuries and you upgrade the Oline and other areas that need it.

Looks like we can easily free up $35 million or so of cap space without even restructuring Tua, so it’s something we can swing.

Definitely a 1 year deal with Joe Flacco would be great. Still has an arm and play at a decent level. Way better than any back up we had in years if signed.

I think dolphins could be back in wildcard next yr. If Tua stay healthy or they bring in good backup. They still going get blown out in wildcard game.

Listening to Kyle Krebs today and he had a going point IMO. Don't draft a developmental QB. The class isn't great this year, doesn't mean one or two wont pan out, but how much time will they get to develop on a team where the coach and GM are more than likely in the hot seat.

He brought up the idea of signing two vets. One that is the backup, he likes Dalton, I'm not a huge Dalton fan. I like Mariota as a back up to Tua, I have since he was not a starter anymore.

I also like the thought of signing a Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, or even Justin Fields. Yes they need reps, but they have all been in the league and they would be better if called on than a guy out of college that isn't getting the reps. You never know, one of those guys could turn into the next Darnold or Mayfield. These guys are only 25-26 years old, still a lot of football left in them if the light clicks on. They all three have the skill set, just haven't put it together.
Kyle Crabbs is a super researcher, one of the best pre draft reads. However, I disagree as to not considering a guy like Kyle McCord. Lots of big game experience, threw for 4700+ Yards this season. Accurate, sound arm. Only vet guy I’d consider is Flacco. The OLine would have to improve greatly, though.
