Looking Back on the Brandon Marshall Trade

we acquired marshall for two second round picks and a 10 million a year contract (i believe). it was an excellent gamble at the time, unfortunately we had henne at QB, and marshall continued to be marshall. being able to salvage two third round picks after that last incident at the club (and the pro bowl), seemed miraculous to me at the time (just one round lower than we gave). the fact that the picks we received haven't panned out yet is just playing the result, which i don't mind, but based on what we gave for him, and everything that transpired, what we got back was fair.

I love Marshall's competitiveness but he comes across as a border line psychopath to me so I was pretty meh on the trade at the time, but hated the plan to replace him. I'm still angry about the Vontae Davis trade though.

The issue wasn't so much the trade as it was not having a plan to replace him. We traded him early in the offseason. Our solution was to bring in two late round WRs (Cunningham and Matthews), a washed up Chad Johnson, and Lagedu Naanee. Sure we got Wallace and Gibson a year later (who could turn out fine) but we didn't trade Marshall to get them a year later. Had we at least attempted to solve our WR problems before round 5 of the draft this might not have been an issue.

Didn't like the trade then, don't like it now. Glad Marshall was able to salvage his career with what he had to put up with here in Miami.

This trade irks me badly. Same with the Vontae trade. You don't get rid of Pro-Bowlers for useless warm bodies, successfuly franchises don't do that.

Did Vontae essentially net us Jamar Taylor?

Philbin pushed for the ouster of a back-to-back 1000 yard receiver. Our brilliant GM netted 2 3rd round picks. Those picks ended up being 3 picks after a trade down in 2012. Those players?

Michael Egnew
BJ Cunningham
Will Davis

Cunningham never even made the team. Egnew is awful, and who knows with Davis.

The trade also left us without any viable receivers in 2012, and forced us to blow 100 million on Wallace in 2013 - who btw ended up having similar personality and chemistry problems as Marshall.

Meanwhile Marshall has remained one of the top WRs in the league and just received a contract extension.

What an awful trade all around. And if anyone tries to absolve Philbin of this mess, shut it. He was just as culpable as Ireland.

With all due respect -- how was Philbin to know that giving second and third round picks to Ireland was like flushing them down the toilet?

Generally speaking, you draft well w. multiple third round picks, you get good players.

By the way, all you guys bashing Wallace are going to be changing your tunes quickly. I think he's going to have a huge year for you guys.

He could have looked at the previous drafts 2nd and 3rd rounders and seen a trend. That being said, I am CONVINCED that Philbin had heavy input into the Egnew pick.

I know we all hate Omar, but he has essentially confirmed that.

The Patriots do this all the time and don't miss a beat.

He could have a 1500 yard season and is still have a sour taste in my mouth after witnessing that ridiculous lack of effort displayed in the first Jets game last year. A pop fly hung in the air for minutes and he did nothing get in position to fight for the ball, resulting in an easy pick for Cromartie. It was disgusting. I was repulsed, and still am, at that lack of effort.

I don't want Brandon Marshall on my team, and I had no problem with trading him. That's all I have to offer to this thread.

Brandon Marshall team record in December thorough out his career

2006 Broncos start 7-3 but finish 2-3 in December
2007 Broncos finish 2-3 in December
2008 Broncos finish 1-3 in December
2009 Broncos finish 1-3 in December
2010 Dolphins finish 1-3 in December/Jan
2011 Dolphins finish 3-1 in December/Jan
2012 Bears finish 2-3 in December
2013 Bears finish 2-3 in December

Brandon Marshall's teams have gone 14-22 in December/Jan when the games count the most.

Oh yea, and I certainly don't miss his 6 dropped TD passes, 2 of which were game winning TDs.
