Looks like we wont be getting Eric Winston

Some of the best RT on the game (David Stewart and Tyson Clabo) only get about $6 million per year.

So a fair offer to Winston would be about $7 million per year.

Since 2007 has started every game which is more than we can say for Jake Long. I do agree 10 mill is way too much though

Long has missed 2 games in his entire career and played the 2010/11 season with a shoulder injury that should have put him on IR and was voted All-Pro that season.

One thing you can't take away from Jake is his toughness.

$7 mil would put him at carey money from his extension years ago...still i'm not sure his market will exceed $6 mil per the way things are going this year and again he plays right tackle for gods sakes...

offer him $6 mil per if he balks tell him to get back with you if he can do better...if someone drops $8 mil per in his lap tell him to go with god

Wasnt knocking Long just saying that Winston has started more games in a row than one of the best left tackles in the game

If he's asking btween 8-10M per year, that's way too much. He's a really good run blocker but struggles at time in pass protection, having given up 17 sacks the past 2 years in 32 games....along with 12 penalties. If he's asking for that, i quickly turn to Anthony Collins and wrap him up quickly or look at Jonathan Martin in the draft. However, if Winston lowers it down to $6M per, then sign him up.

Impressive, didn't know that. He was cut by the Texans and was only making 5.5 million this season. Something about a "failed physical" and him having arthroscopic knee surgery . . . I dunno.

The reason they gave for cutting Winston was a 'failed physical', but he will pass any physical a team gives him now.

The REAL reason he was cut is because the Texans are screwed cap wise. They even had to let go Chris Meyers who is a very good C.

Wnston is 33. He wont get more then 3 year contract for about 20M tops.

He is 28 years old, not 33. His new deal will be at least 5 year IMO.

1 - He is 28

2 - He has been pretty much injury free with the exception of a few games.

3 - If we wouldn't pay Hicks 2 Million - Murtha 1.9 Milliion and Cook 1.125 Million a year which totals a little over 5 Million a year for backups we could afford Winston. Paying these old guys big money as backups is stupid. We have tried this the last couple of years and they either end up getting cut or they never play. If we had Winston out OL would be Long, Incognito, Pouncey, Jerry and Winston. That would leave Garner, Feinga and a couple others as backups. I would be ok with that. I think we are throwing money away with Hicks, Murtha and Cook! Sign rookies or undrafted rookies cheap and groom them or sign vets for the minimum to play backup roles. We do this crap with special teams guys too and it is ridiculous. Westerman we will pay good money and will probably be mainly ST guy!

We lowballed Winston and I am guessing we offered something in the range of $6 million per year.

I am guessing it will take at least $7-8 million per year to get him.

Top RT money would be in that range.

We are not out of the race for him yet, but it doesn't look good.

Im not a fan of overpaying for anyone but how come it seems like this organization is shopping at family dollar while other teams can at least go to walmart

We got $11.5 million in dead cap, plus we are saving about $8-10 million for Matt Flynn.
