The Palm Beach Post reports the Dolphins have considered carrying Ryan Tannehill as the No. 2 quarterback, making the loser of the David Garrard-Matt Moore battle expendable.

Those who follow me on twitter are aware I have been saying this for days. I don't see Miami keeping both & the smart way to go about is having the winner of Garrard-Moore start with THill as the backup waiting for his time. If Fins cut or trade Moore they would save $2.72 million & if the cut or trade Garrard they save $ 2.25 million. Unless a team loses a starter it won't be easy for Miami to trade either QB. We could very likely see last year offensive MVP Matt Moore get the axe if Garrard continues to prove he is the better QB.

When Peyton Manning is injured this year I could see Denver wanting Moore. Unless it's early and they go Blow for Barkley.

I don't see Miami cutting Moore or Garrard. Just don't see that happening. I could see them trading one of them if they can get good value from another team. Honestly I wouldn't trade either of them unless they get at least a 4th round pick and I am not sure they could get that. If Garrard wins the job, you have to worry about how long his back will hold up, and if he goes down, suddenly all you have is Tannehill and no veteran presence.

McCoy did coach Moore.

With Tebow at QB they made the playoffs and won a playoff game, that defense wouldn't allow them to blow for Barkley

back on topic, I think it would be in best interest to cut one of them and let the other start for 1 or 2 years and then give the reigns to Tannehill.

i dont think they will cut moore or Garrard but instead will trade the one who losses the starting job

If the Dolphins were to cut last year's offensive MVP Matt Moore does it mean the Dolphins upgraded the QB position?

Well, it might be more accurate to say that the team sucked, and the play of the Broncos defense didn't keep them from losign while Orton was starting. Tebow refused to let the Broncos lose, and he's gong to be a pain in the ass for the Dolphins for at least two game s a year for years to come.

They're not going to cut the loser.

I could see something like trading Moore to San Diego, though.

You have a completely misleading thread title. Nowhere in the article does it state that the loser will be cut, it just says "expendable", which means they can trade one of them. Cutting a player and getting zero value is something that would happen at last resort. We got like a 7th rounder for Josh McCown, and I'd say Moore/Garrard are light years ahead of him.

Seriously, lay off the sensationalism.

That would be a perfect scenario for Moore & a destination I have given a ton of thought. With that said like I already mentioned, I don't think it will be easy to trade Moore or Garrard unless a starting QB in the league goes down.

No one's going to trade for them to be the starter, it's a lot more likely that they'd trade for depth. San Diego has Rivers and some other guy, Moore or Garrard would fit the slot where Kyle Boller was supposed to man.

They're both on 1 off deals anyway, so whatever costs they'd incur would be gone after this year, anyway.

I think if Garrard wins the QB battle, the Dolphins will only trade Moore if they can get a 4th round pick or a player at a needed position. I do not see them cutting him, with the fear of Garrard going down. If Moore wins the QB battle, I think they will cut Garrard. There will be a need for a quality backup QB from at least 1 or 2 teams. Moore has been an excellent backup QB during his career and although Garrard is a pro bowl QB, I don't think he will gain as much interest as Moore will, being injured and out of the league last year. If Tannehill wins out, not likely but who knows, then I think we keep Moore and cut Garrard, for the same reasons stated above.

Behind Rivers they have Charlie Whitehurst ( knee injury), Kevin O'Connell & Jarrett Lee. They could definitely use a backup QB.

It's not like Whitehurst was that great anyway before he blew his knee apart.

O'Connell sucks and is a waver wire nomad, and Jarrett Lee's some un-drafted guy that couldn't even beat Jordan Jefferson out at LSU. Moore or Garrard would be an instant upgrade for them.
