Love Patriots Week 1

You're partially right. Ty Law never played for the BILLS but indeed played 10 yrs with the Pats before moving on to stops at the Jets, Chiefs, and Broncos.

You are correct, I meant that he never played for the bills. Obviously he played the majority of his career w/the Pats.

The last time the Patriots lost their season opener?

2003. A DECADE ago.

And that was the Bledsoe Bowl the year Bledsoe joined the Bills. There was a lot of emotion and motivation that went in there. Ty Law had also been cut a week or two before that game and joined the Bills, so he had intel.

You may be excited, but I bet you won't be in the 4th Quarter when BB and Tom Terrific are doing their usual Week 1 heroics.

I hate the start of this schedule. Things could tank in a hurry... :(

actually it was a year after the Bledsoe trade, he first faced them in 2002.

I don't agree with Skape...... I think we win this one. Look, BB and TB are great. But getting them early before TB has had time to gel with his receivers is the best possible outcome for us. If the Bills had a half way decent QB last year on opening day, they kill the Pats. Then the pats played a Jets team with a rookie QB playing his 2nd game ever and squeak out another win. The Pats are a good team, not a great team. I say we win opening day. Give me the Dolphins + 4 over the Pats all day. Dolphins win by 3.

The biggest issue is that the defense needs to be ready for the tempo of the Patriots offense. I am sure the Patriots will use a slightly different set of plays, but they will try to run a large number of plays in the hot September weather. It is important for the coaches to make sure the Patriots do not use our own home field advantage against us.

Personally, I don't think there is ever a good time to play the Pats. They got two people that always gives them an advantage over average teams: BB and TB.

Everyone, including myself, expected the Pats to struggle out of the gate last season without Gronk and Hernandez, and they went something like 5-0. Sure, they weren't blowing teams out, but they still won.

After seeing how the 2011 season played after getting exposed by BB in week 1, I'm just not thrilled by the prospects of history repeating itself.

OP is 100% correct. You want to play the Patriots early, especially at home, before they find their groove and go on their patented long winning streak. Even if the Patriots haven't lost many openers, I can recall a lot of bad losses they suffered early in the season. Quite a few to the Jets, one at Buffalo, and a home loss a couple of years ago to Arizona come to mind.

first of all, nyjunc giving you a thumbs up should be clue #1. You're a horrible fan. If you dont get excited over competition, why do you even watch sports? Would you prefer we only play the bottom of the barrel teams? This will be an exciting game! Yes, there is a strong chance we lose! But a win could produce an immediate advantage for the rest of year. I dont understand people like you with your constant negative mentality.

that wasn't my post.

It is quite humorous that I am now viewed as a negative Nellie after more than a decade of being a forum homer, for the most part.

I've tried to remain realistic and neutral on most topics over the years. I've been on the wrong side of the fence on many an occasion, but mostly because I was overly positive.

What I see as realism, you view as negativity, and so it will be until reality bashes you over the head. :)

Fact is, Philbin is 1-3 vs BB. His line victory took a Herculean effort from several players, and nearly became a loss if not for a few amazing plays by a practice squad player...

The odds are we will lose this game. That doesn't mean I'm not excited for the season and to watch this game, but I'm keeping expectations grounded in reality, unlike some of you.

If that makes me a "bad fan" so be it, but I will be there rooting them on every week, no matter the record, just like I have for the past decade of futility, even when they were winless entering Week 11 of the 2007 season.

I'm looking forward to the Pats being at the BOTTOM of the division after Week 1.

Just like the first game against the Pats in 2013 took a season-ending injury to our best receiver up to that point and some help from the Refs to help the Pats come from behind and beat us. See, it works both ways.
