Man, it's been a while... but here's my $.02

What's up everybody?!?! -81- McMichael in da house!

Long-time-no-post for me. Damn this site has gotten PHAT!

Anyway, enough wid da ebonics (if you know me then you know how out of character this is, i.e. funny). [infins, you tell 'em]

I've been lurking for a looooooooong time now and I finally feel the need to say something about the upcoming season. Moreover, I really feel it necessary to EMPHASIZE the ONE THING that separates this season from 2004... and '03... and '02... and I think you know where I'm going with this by now.

SABAN... is... NOT... Wanny.

Ok, stop

Seriously, stop and think about it for a minute. Forget about all the personnel moves, Ricky, Spielman, Fiedler, blown draft picks, injuries, bad luck, etc... WHATEVER you want... but focus on this now:

Win OR lose, I will bet you all this ONE thing for 2005:

We will NOT have to suffer in the DOLDRUMS anymore.

I wonder how many of you really understand what I'm saying. Here's a refresher; here's the dictionary definitions:

1.
a. A period of stagnation or slump.
b. A period of depression or unhappy listlessness.

2.
a. A region of the ocean near the equator, characterized by calms, light winds, or squalls.
b. The weather conditions characteristic of these regions of the ocean.

Well, that's exactly where we've been under Wanny! Otherwise, known or internationally recognized as :goof:

Seriously, people, I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to hang it up as a Dolfan while Wanny was in charge (there's an oxymoron for ya: "Wanny... in charge").

IMO, Wanny has suffered upon us fans some of the most pathetic and unimaginative coaching to disgrace the NFL (and almost ruin one of its proudest franchizes) in the last decade (if not ever). And I could give you SO MANY example of games literally lost at the hand of his total and complete ineptitude (stupidity is more like it, but I'm feeling generous [he never should've been hired in the first place - he's not qualified/capable to head coach in the NFL... period])... not the least of which was the final game of the season some two years ago against the Pats that had W written all over it until captain $h**-for-brains took the ball out of his star runningback's hands and instead put in the "trusted" mitts of his pendejo idiota QB who promptly threw incompletion after incompletion when all we needed was to get at least ONE freak'n set of new downs to control the destiny of that game (nevermind the season)! :yell: :fire:

Arsehole!!!

Sorry, but I nearly gave up right there and then. At least, that's when I really understood that WITH HIM - with Wanny - this team could have all the talent and star players in the world and they... were... going... NOWHERE!

How many people remember that we had the leagues leaders in RUSHING YARDS, SACKS, INTERCEPTIONS, and TACKLES that year?

Pathetic. We didn't even make the playoffs.

Any you know who I blame? Yeah, you guessed it!

But that's all I ever want to say again about THE PAST. This is a NEW ERA, people!

SAB-er ball is here!

A lot of things will happen in 2005, for sure. But I will ASSURE you all of one thing RIGHT NOW: we will not play a single game this year NOT TO LOSE.

It won't happen. SABAN doesn't play that, homies. (Back wid da ebonics - I'm done "whin'n about Wanny" - feel'n betta now!)

We will play to win in 2005. Every game. EVERY PLAY. And if at 00:00 the other team has more points on the board than we do... if the other team is better... FINE! I don't have a problem with losing to a better team. Never had. But losing for fear of "something going wrong"... for playing NOT TO LOSE... F that, folks. That's the cowards' game. And they lose every time.

Here I officially (for me) welcome the 2005 season and, most of all, I welcome coach Saban and the entire Miami Dolphins team... playing to win... playing to KICK SOME *$$!!! Go 'Phins!!!

P.S. Give an example of a game or personnel decision or strategy or whatever that illustrates how awful Wanny was as a head coach. I'll start off by suggesting that the "Monday Night Miracle" is an embarrassment I don't believe any decent head coach would ever have allowed his players (or fans) to suffer. Has to be one of the darkest hours in Dolphin's history.

PEACE!

From a fellow sail boat captain (winded).... pull up a stool and have a drink... you MUST be tired!

:friday:

I can see the aversion therapy is working! j/k

Welcome back. Nice post.

Great points 81.....I think you speak for a lot of Phins fans who were repeatedly frustrated with the Wanny regime. Wanny never showed any creativity and I think once we fell behind in games we knew it was over under Wanny. How many times did Wanny play not to lose over the years??? How often did Wanny repeatedly run the same vanilla plays over and over which everyone in the stadium could figure he would run (i.e., predictability). At least years ago, when Dan was our QB, you could see some unexpected plays...a long bomb every now and then, mixing things up.....It seems like as soon as we got behind while Wanny was coach, we would see Wanny rubbing his pornstache and giving that confused look of his......I would rather us lose by taking some chances (and at least not repeteadly run the same lame play three times up the middle) and then have Turk punt it away. Saban won't be Wanny...and for that alone I have hope.

:)

Very nice 81. Saban hasn't coached a game and I'm already totally behind him. He is so refreshing compared to other coaches and organizations. Nice combo of wisdom/toughness.

 The man, the myth, the legend returns to the scene of the crime.

Glad to see you're still among the upright.

Who is this Wanny character that you're carrying on about??? :poke:

I'm sorry but, I just can't get in the mindset to think about Dave Wannstedt anymore. I've scrubbed those 5 years from my mind.

I am out of the DOLDRUMS.

Please don't make me go back.

I'll write you a hundred page essay, on Saban's love for Little Debbies, with more enthusiasm than I will answer a question about the long gone pornstachioed franchise killer.

here goes....

"Saban loves Little Debbies' snack cakes because they are filled with creamy goodness made by elves who live under a log. They are related to the more famous Keebler elves but a tragic chainsaw incident seperated their living arrangements forever......."

Did I say 100 pages or words????

:escape:

I'm with you inFINS, but nice read Mac...

...on the subject of the anti-Wanny. I can't wait to see what Saban's coaching can produce on the field.

Meantime, I think Wanny is summed up in the pained, hands running through the hair pose, completely unable to grasp the simple concept that Wanny ball doesn't work. "I ran the A gap, I ran the B gap, what more can I do here, man. This defense has me foxed, wily characters that they are. They'll be forcing me to use Jay's arm in a minute". :shootself

(did anyone actually catch him on camera referring to the "NFL for Dummies" book on the sidelines).

Sorry,I have to call BS on this:rofl3: No way would a real football player bash his former coach and QB like that. Not to mention Randy isnt 33 years old:rolleyes:

Excellent post. What Really used to "burn my cannoli" was when the game was passing us by while we can't get anything going on offense and seeing the offense come back out on the field, only to: Give it to Ricky on 1st down. Try the weakest screen pass in the flat out to RIcky. Then on 3rd down Obviously the D just sits back and wait for Fiedler to do what Wanny has doomed him to. WHich is 3 and out or int going the other way for 6. I hated to see a run on EVERY SINGLE 1st DOWN WE HAD.
