Mando: Farmer 'most impressive' GM interview so far

I have no problem with giving him a chance but not sure what he has done to set himself apart from the other potential hires.

He seems smart, oraganized, & conscientious which means he and Joe probably got on well.

Isn't that what the phins need? A HC & GM who get along and think alike.

No, Phins need a decision maker who will draft and sign beasts, that is the top requirement for the GM. The get along part is a preference.

well that really depends on a lot. Not sure thinking like Philbin is what the team needs in a GM.
Supposedly a lot of the dolphin players that were gone were because of Philbin but who really knows. Personally Philbin should be the least of the equation, he hasn't proven that he is worth keeping long term, our Gm hire should be based on who they feel is the best evalaluater of talent.

And honestly we don't know how any candidate is going to do before they give it the ol college try. I'll repeat till my face turns blue that guys who were seen as slam dunk hires fell flat on their faces before. Gotta give them that chance

^ This is exactly where i'm at with Farmer. I guess we'll find out if they hire the guy.

Do people not know by now that this isn't an exact science or black and white? I see these arguments all the time about "what has this guy done" or "this guy has never been a coach in his life".

We have all seen HOF coaches fail in new places and we have seen people with no experience do the same. However we have all seen HOF coaches move to new jobs and succeed and the same with coaches with no experience. The same can be put into this GM search. There is really no way of knowing what guy is good or bad based on what they have done.

Each team is a new challenge with different resources and opportunities. I am pretty sure that more players would be interested in playing in Miami than in Cleveland.

Just because the Browns haven't been as successful as they would have liked doesn't mean this guy can't come to Miami and win a Superbowl.

I want someone that helped creating a competitive team, not a losing one. Is that too much to ask? I'm not talking about coaches.

You mean a winning team. All team are competitive... Including the brows and us.

The core success that Farmer has had in the NFL is in Kansas City. Take a look at the 8 Pro Bowlers on their team. Players like Jamal Charles, Eric Berry, Derrick Johnston, etc. Farmer only spent the past year in Cleveland. Please don't saddle that team's mediocre performance on him. Carl Peterson is helping Ross with the GM appointment and knows how good Farmer is. The only question is whether he's ready to go to the next level and how well he will fit with our other key people. If King Carl is convinced that Farmer is ready, don't be surprised if he gets the job.

I like Farmer as long as he doesn't push his faith and try to make suggestions/demands regarding bible study and similar. I've read a couple of articles along those lines. During his NFL playing days he tried to claim the recent champions got there largely due to their devotion to christianity.

Hadn't seen anything like that. Sounds more like Lake Dawson than Farmer, to be honest. If you watch the video of Lake Dawson speaking to that Notre Dame club (video is in my stickied thread on the GM candidates), it wouldn't shock me to hear him say something like that.

Thx for sharing. I was not aware that Farmer was one of these guys who believe that the game is strictly for christians. This is a bit scary if he is committed to a strictly christian agenda. I bet that no-one prayed harder than Tim Tebow but he only had a pass completion percentage of 47%.

The Dolphins need someone who is a proven evaluator of talent with the intestinal fortitude to pull the trigger on the best players. With guys like Gamble, Licht and even Gaine available, I just don't think Farmer is the guy I'd want. I absolutely want someone who learned in the house of good GM's like Atlanta, Green Bay, San Francisco, Baltimore, etc., and while we can never be sure how much of their good fortune is attributable to one candidate, it provides a good education if nothing else. We have suffered at the hands of Parcells long enough. Time to bring in a top talent, not just another guy. I'm not convinced Farmer really is anything more. He would actually be pretty far down my list of who I'd like to see as our GM. Gamble would be at the top.

Farmer appears good but if he is totally committed to finding players devoted to christianity, he should realize that our owner is Jewish and I'm pretty sure that he will never embrace a strictly Christian agenda for all players. Incidentally, many other owners are also Jewish, eg Robert Kraft at New England, Jeffery Lurie at Philadelphia, the Glazers at Tampa Bay, the Wilfs at Minnesota, Arthur Blank at Atlanta, Daniel Snyder at Washington, Robert Tisch part owner of the Giants, (even the late Al Davis at the Raiders, I don't know about his son).
