Mando: Farmer 'most impressive' GM interview so far

The Cowboys were 13-3 the year before Jeff Ireland left there to become our GM. Somehow that didn't end up being the most predictive factor.

Not that there aren't reasons to be wary of Farmer. I've outlined them in a few threads. But the "winning organization" thing is just silly, especially since Farmer has only been there for one year.

I believe they are a more talented organization, from top to bottom. Something like 8 probowlers?

Only most of those players -- if not all of them -- were drafted. And Farmer didn't work in college scouting. He was on the pro scouting side.

Don't know if anyone is watching HBO's Hard Knocks show re the KC Chiefs training camp, but last week they interviewed Director of Pro Personnel Ray Farmer, who looked an amazing amount like the Ray Farmer that was a standout for Duke at safety wearing #22 (before being drafted by the Eagles). Anyone know if they're, in fact, the same?

Yep, that's him. (http://www.kcchiefs.com/front_office/ray_farmer/)

I saw that too. I backed up the Tivo to double check that I saw it correctly. It looks like Ray has done very well for himself.

Amen, by far the best Duke football player I saw during my years there. And a terrifically nice guy from everything I heard. Way to go, Ray!

Ray is a great guy and as far as I know was the last (and perhaps only) Duke player to make the number one play of the day on ESPN. If memory serves me correctly Duke was getting slaughtered by FSU, Ray came through blocked the extra point and ran it back for a safety. Come on NCAA, a guy does that and his reward is 2 freakin' points!

We could have used those 2 points last year to win a couple of games...

Former stud safety is the pro personnel director for KC and got serious time on HBO tonight. Hopefully we can snag more players as good as he was for the current team.

Sorry, my bad.

Here's a great read posted on Omar's twitter today about Farmer.

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/index.ssf/2013/10/ray_farmer_cleveland_browns_nfl_draft_2014.html

After reading it I gained a lot of confidence in Farmer if he is our guy. Speaks about his professionalism and his hard work in scouting and evaluating players. Exactly what we are looking for.

I just want to say that I almost always disagree with Omar, but it is not his article, and it is a good one!

I didn't look into his background, only at the Chiefs drafts and moves. Maybe I'm wrong, after all he didn't have final say in KC.

Nah, you don't have to do that. In all fairness I was looking at the KC team for a completely different post. But there are 8 probowlers, and I want to say 6 or 7 are acquisitions during the time Farmer was there. How much was him and how much Pioli or Peterson is hard to tell, you never really know.

He was with the browns for one year and made a hell of a trade to get rid of T Rich!

That is looking like a steal right now even if it is a late 1st rounder. Ireland would have traded him for a 2nd or a 3rd.

A 5th after he forced us to hold onto him for two seasons too long.

I hope there is more to like about him than simply putting in a ton of hours, Ireland could have put in 25 hours a day and it wouldn't have helped him. Besides, only getting 4 hours of sleep a night is not healthy and the guy is probably getting dumber by the day.
