Mando: Season to Decide the Franchise's Direction

I disagree. I think Ross is happy with his staff and he will give them a few years to put this team together.
The Patriots are approaching sunset. Rebuilding the team yet again is only a stupid notion that could come from Mando.
He is a knuckle dragging ape IMHO.

I'm so over rebuilding and would like to continue to build. I like what has happen so far with...good talent at WR, DL, OL (some are young, but I like the direction)...LB remains a concern, but overall this team is moving in the right direction.

Our offense will be the talk of the league....and we lose Bill Lazor to a head coaching job elsewhere.

And Philbin brings back his mentor and friend Mike Sherman! :puke:

I for one wouldn't mind a housecleaning after this season. So many teams are now starting to run a college-style offense, but I think that it's just a passing fad. Eventually, those running QBs are going to get hurt, and teams will shy away from that style of offense. I'd prefer to copy what worked for the Fins in the past: a strong, physical defense, a dominant running game, and a vertical passing game. Sprinkle in a few dink-and-dunk and trick plays, and you've got a team. What I've been seeing from Miami under Philbin is an offense based on those dink-and-dunk plays, with those short timing routes taking away most of the emphasis on the running game. Under Coyle, the defense has become "finesse" instead of physical. The ability to stop the run has lessened each year in this regime.

A lot of people say that Lazor's new offense will have more emphasis on the run, but it's still going to be a finesse-style offense. Even if it is successful, it won't matter if the defense can no longer keep the team in every game. The way I see it, this could be a good season for me... if the team wins and makes the playoffs, great, but if they lose and Ross cleans house I'll be happy too!

And one more thing: the team is trending up, its just moving much slower than everybody wants. One big reason for the upward trend moving at a snails pace is Jeff Ireland. We're like a full year behind schedule from where a competent GM would have had us. And I think Ross is smart enough to understand that. The weapons we put around Tannehill last year should have happened his first year. To have Brian Hartline as our top receiver and Sean Smith as our top DB was criminal. The team we have around Tannehill this year should have happened last year. Had all that happened the team is probably two wins better, which puts in the black in the win-loss record and Tannehill would have much better chemistry with all of his receivers right now.

If the team backtracks to 5-11 or another 7-9, he will not be happy.

You are at a point whether you fish or cut bait with Joe. He cannot coach as a lame duck.

I want to see offensive improvement and go 9-7 and I would hold things together.

I am known as being a "Philbin hater". However, I want what is best for the team and I hope they show progress to keep **** together. However, if not, there are a ton of contracts on the field and the sideline that are perfect to trim this offseason.

@RapSheet: From #GameDayMorning: #49ers sources believe coach Jim Harbaugh is already losing the locker room Veterans wonder: Is he really all in?

@RapSheet: #49ers coach Jim Harbaugh irked some veterans by taking the team to Baltimore for days to practice against his brother. Just 1 example

I hope George Constanza it and gets fired and is fair game.

If he loses the locker room all of a sudden he's not the best coach in the NFL anymore. Hoping we have a shot to land Harbaugh because he loses his current locker room is a paradox.

I think there is a lot going on in SF. Power struggle with the GM, pressure to catch the Seahawks and Harbaugh's own contract issue.

He is a grinder that could most def burnout in a location, but I DO think he is a top five coach in this league.

Philbin is the weakest link. We lose, he gores. Ross never explicitly said it, but it's known. Let's hope it all comes together this year.

We have to remember this just Week One. Lots of games left to play and save jobs.

Disagree. Joe needs to show improvement this year and so does RT. With the renovations coming to the stadium, plenty of contracts to jettison, possible players to trade for mid round picks, intelligent FO types like Garfinkel and Marino and good draft for QB's coming…

And Marino? When did Marino become an intelligent FO type? I can only recall Marino stepping down when he was put in a position of power. I think you are confusing Marino with Elway.

I am not confused at all. However, Steven Ross is in a better position to land a coach of his dreams walking in the room with Marino than Dawn Aponte or Carl Peterson.

Marino gives credibility to Ross.

Harbaugh?

Ross is a smart man. He KNOWS this is a 10-6 type team and that the evil empire is about to crumble for good... in fact, he watched the first bricks topple this afternoon. Philbin and Hickey stay and Tannehill is here until or unless there is a bottom-fall-out situation.
