Manning met with Dolphins today in Indy for 5-6 hours

Jason LaCanfora just said Mannning could command a starting salary at $20 million. we wouldnt be able to bring any of his ex Colt buddies if that is the case. im not getting my hopes up.

LaCanfora is a idiot.... If he was right then we would have Orton at QB and Bradshaw at RB.

We don't need them. Manning makes WRs, not the other way around.

Another report from 'reliable source' STOP IT PLEASE!!!

Even if Manning does want 20 million then we can sign him... If we sign him then players will re-structure some contracts and we will make cuts to grab Wayne. It will work out.

Nope. Not in this case. The dolphins WANT Manning, so why should they be treating him like he's applying for the job? Fact is, it's the phins applying for the job. So let them come to him. There's nothing desperate about it imo. I look at it as good manners and a smart negotiating tactic.

The best way to court someone you want to hire is making it look like you're coming to them, even if you've got to fly them to you. In no part of the process should it seem like Manning is looking for a job.

I'd say at this point the phins are in way better shape since they took the initiative. Riddle me this, assume Manning drags his feet through the start of FA. Other teams start bleeding capspace while the phins wait it out or court Saturday, Wayne, etc. Leaving them in a stronger bargaining position if Manning comes back to the table. If all else fails, go for Tannehill.

It's a smart play.

Well said, I can see logic in that, and I like the perspective.

About the riddle, what if Manning doesn't agree tomorrow? Do we go ahead and make an offer to Flynn (presuming he's our 2nd choice)?

I still say the magic number is 18m guaranteed 1st year with a 4-5 yr. incentive-laden contract worth upwards of 100m.
You then dump and restructure for cap-space for Manning's preferred FA's and grab Tannehill.

We're the only team really setup to do this type of deal, which is why we we're in the front-running to begin with.
a) ross like part owners and player-coaches
b) this is an easy place to play in the twilight of your career
c) our draft position affords us a good, young qb talent for Manning to lean one when needed
d) we have JUST enough cap-space to pull it off
e) we've got a fresh coaching start

It's still really dependent on the FO whether he comes here or not, which is why I believe if he doesn't that they should really take the lion's share of the blame even if they do everything right for the time-being.

I think the next time Manning gets on a plane, it's to head to the city he has chosen...

Yes we can, and we will. Marshall, Dansby and Long can all redo their contracts to make room for the moves they want to make.

Haven't I been preaching to you guys all day that the Dolphins were on lockdown mode for a reason, you don't just lockdown for the sake of randomness. I also told you guys we have a very good chance to land him. I think our biggest concern is Houston, if Houston really wants him, then we're out, we can't compete with their roster and facilities.

Just use logic and common sense and ignore the tweeters they're all full of crap. Lockdown mode meant we were dealing with Manning and very serious about landing him, very serious. Now we have to wait and see. I am not worried about the Titans but Houston . . .

ps- Only way he goes to Denver is the money, there's no reason a 36 yr. with a neck injury should prefer playing in hostile conditions, and their roster isn't as deep as ours. make no mistake, Denver will be financially motivated, it's the only thing they really have over us.

I discount all NFC teams, they're non-starters in my opinion. Manning is too much of a family guy.

I was confident all this time that we were going to land Manning but I didn't realize there were so many teams in the mix. I don't have enough knowledge to understand how they all fit together. I still think we are the favorites but not by much.

One thing I'm sure of is that this will move a lot faster than people think, don't believe that garbage about a week or two, stay tuned.

I've never understood why ppl say this. Wayne, Harrison, Clark and the Edge back in the day are not chopped meat.

Don't get me wrong, Manning is amazing, but he has always had good receivers to throw to.

The way the Dolphins behave tomorrow will give us an idea of how the meeting went although it could also be red herring. If the Dolphins are really high on Tannehill and not Flynn then our lack of movement towards Flynn could be mistakenly perceived.

Indeed, the "lockdown mode" could also be back-office talks with players like Marshall and Long about contract restructuring. These types of things you never learn about until afterwards, typically after making a championship run. Same thing happened with the Heat.
