Manning zeroed in on Miami Dolphins

Honestly, we are probably in the best position to get Manning because we have a solid backup who I believe can get us to the playoffs if Manning goes down. At this point, I would assume the risk of signing Manning. He will likely be affordable (because he is damaged goods), so if everything works out for the best, you have a HOF QB leading your team. If all else fails, you have Matt Moore coming back who did a pretty good job winning games last year, but now playing under a better offensive system.

I don't see much of a risk in signing Manning for that reason. He won't be our only option once the season starts. If we were picking higher, I would rather get RGIII than Manning, but considering we can't get to RGIII, Manning will work fine.

Its obvious that the staff doesn't consider Matt Flynn to be a franchise QB, so I don't think its much of a loss if he signs elsewhere.

I don't see how that's obvious in any way.

Well, its obvious IF the Dolphins put all their efforts into signing Manning once free agency opens up (or when Manning is cut). Yes, Ross could be forcing this, but if Coach Philbin were convinced that Matt Flynn would be a better longterm solution for the Dolphins at QB, then I think Ross would listen.

We will know for sure once Manning is cut, but if the Dolphins go hard after Manning, it seems that Philbin is not convinced that Matt Flynn can be a franchise QB.

i think what it says more than anything if manning comes here is that ross wanted it done so it got it done...i don't think philbin in this manning vs flynn thing has as much say about who he'd rather have play for him...i think if manning comes here this is a whole lot of ross

i do think flynns the play though if manning doesn't work out...

1. The owner is the BOSS. You don't force your BOSS to not do what he wants to do.

2. Joe Philbin is not the General Manager. Jeff Ireland is. Philbin has two decision makers to deal with, whose opinions on personnel matter more than his.

This is a HUGE assumption, one I find is just made out of convenience. It's not pleasant to think that Philbin actually saw a franchise QB in Matt Flynn but we didn't get him because Steve Ross and Jeff Ireland steered us toward another option...and therefore, Dol-fans will choos to think that's not what happened. But it's highly possible, whether they want to believe it or not.

Well, if Philbin DOES think Matt Flynn is franchise caliber, and relayed this information to Ross and Ireland, and they both shot him down in favor of Manning, then this team is in some major trouble going forward. These guys are all supposed to work together, and they obviously thought highly enough of Philbin to hire him as HC, so they should believe him when he tells them that Flynn is legit.

I hope, for our sake, if we DON'T pursue Flynn as hard as Manning, that its because Philbin doesn't believe that Flynn is a sure-fire franchise QB, and not because Ross and Ireland got a boner for a limp Manning.

ross told ireland right across from me at a bar in charlotte a few years ago how much he "demanded a true #1 wr" and ireland even repeated it to me probably 10 times while i was sitting at the table having a beer with them and guess what happened that offseason??? we traded for brandon marshall thats what...

if ross wants manning i can tell you right now there will be a full court press to make it happen...and it will come if need be directly from ross himself...no doubt in my mind after sitting with them if ross demands something its gonna happen or they're gonna go all out to make it happen

Then why did Ross defer to Ireland when it came to Jeff Fisher?

Man ESPN probably has dollar signs on their eyes at the moment with the ratings they will be getting soon on the Manning decision.

I'm wondering if Peyton has already been in contact with teams about where he wants to play.
Eli being with the Giants might mean he doesn't want to go to the Jets or Redskins and he may have already told them that

That situation is...muddy...at best. Follow all the reports and intrigue and innuendo, rumors, etc...and we thik we know what really happened (I'm guilty of this too)...yet in actuality, I don't think we do.

Why would the Jets want him when they have Sanchez?

Sign Manning and draft Kirk Cousins in the 3rd.

My perfect scenario

I dont think having Manning will bother Philbin at all as long as we get another QB in the draft that Philbin can sink his teeth into while watching/learning from Manning the finer points of crunch time football. I think Philbin wants a high powered offense no matter who the QB is and Manning is highly proven and how could you lose in that regard? The only thing is if Manning ends up injured worse than before, but that is the risk you take. But as long as he has someone else waiting in the wings to teach, ala Flynn in GB, then he will enjoy the ride.
