Manny Wright's Role?

Maybe if you would've read the whole thread, then you would understand on why i said that.

:rolleyes:

I did read the thread, regardless it's your post that set up the thread and in it you suggested that Wright is too small to be a future NT which is rediculous. Consider for a moment that Keith Traylor, our NT when we line up in a 3-4 formation, started his career as a LB.

I'd say Manny is probably bigger right now as a rookie than Traylor was as a LB coming into the NFL as a rookie would'nt you? If so there's no reason to believe Wright could'nt put 30-40 pounds in a couple of years and be a decent NT. There's no reason he could'nt drop into the 290's and be a DE in a 3-4 set either. It's too early to tell.

Yeah I'm not saying it's impossible for a 6'6" guy to learn to play well at the nose position where you need to become an immovable object, but would be very unusual. I thought it was impossible for a 6'6" guy to run a 4.37 in the 40 yard dash, but then Matt Jones came along and destroyed everyone's vision of what a wide receiver could or could not be.

What I will say is that knowing Wright's history and seeing him play, I find it even more unlikely for him in particular to develop into that kind of player that breaks the mold, so to speak.

If Manny and Kevin have a future with the phins it would be as DTs in the 4-3 technique, and defensive ends in the 3-4 technique. That's the kind of players they are, IMO.
I agree.

He has to be conditioned more to fit into the scheme of things. Saban knew that and also knows that he is rebuilding a defense so a fifth round supplemental pick is worth it in the long run.

I understand on what you are saying. I just want Wright to be our NT for next year, since we will prob switch over to the 3-4. We already have alot of DE's, but we have some very old DT's.

Giving up a 5th round pick in next years draft for a player of Wright's potential is not real bad. Consider our failures at pre-saban era drafts. IMHO he is going to be on the roster this year but probably not active for many games barring injuries. He will be whipped into shape and they will groom him for next year.

The only reason you might have seen him at DE is probably because of a blitz scheme called that play. I like Manny, the only thing I think he needs to work on is his conditioning, technique, and trimming some of that blubber off his belly and replacing it with muscle.

I remember Keith Traylor's first year, he certainly wasn't the 340 pounds the Dolphins list him at now. Biggest question is which foot Keith had off the scale when he weighed only 340?

well i remember seeing him in that one incident with him so called "crying" and his gut was hanging out if thats what you mean by big

Ever get a good look at Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams? Wright's gut doesn't hold a candle to those 2 slobs.

I thought that this guy was gonna be our future at NT, but he seem like a very small DT in the games that i watched. I believe that i saw him play some DE, but i am not quite sure. So if you don't care, could somebody please explain to me how Wright will fit in the defense?

Role = Get into shape.

i think the best example of having large lineman succeed is marcus stroud and john anderson , strout is 6-6 and henderson is 6-7 and it is pretty tough to run against them
