Marino on Inside the NFL

I think the reason Marino quit the first time around was because he saw the writing on the wall with Wannstedt and Spielman, now he'll be able to hire his own guys.

What qualifies him other than being Dan Marino? What is his background in personnel?

oh so Elway's arena ball affiliation vetted him?? in his short couple weeks in '04, Marino scouted 1 player at Senior Bowl... Philip Rivers. told those morons to draft him; they didn't. he had that right

If Marino was interested, it would be good for Ross to let him interview. That is if Ireland is canned soon.

But the thing with Marino is he has a family who he spends a lot of time with. Being a GM means he would spend very little time with them.

I don't think that is what Marino wants at this point in his life right now. Just my two cents.

The story at the time was he was full on in love with Philip Rivers as a player, and he wanted Miami to draft him and Spielman and Wannatedt didn't want him so Marino walked.

Miami never had a prayer of drafting Rivers. He was gone by #4 overall. We picked 19th that year. Incidentally, the guy we picked 19th overall -- Vernon Carey -- was a far better right tackle than the last three clowns we've trotted out at that position.

Luv Danny but have little interest in him being gm. Seen too many ex players become coaches, personal guys etc and flop. Look at Michael Jordan. As much as i want Ireland gone, i would hope to go in a different direction.

sooooooooo, lemme see if I'm reading you correct JD; we wouldn't/couldn't have packaged picks/players/futures to get from 19 to 4? our 19th (that year) and our 1 the next draft (#2 overall), would not have been enuff?? really?!!

I think if Marino was to come on board it wouldn't be as GM. It'd probably be a part time position advising Ross and talking to players and coaches to give input if needed. I highly doubt he'd ever get total control, especially since we have a different owner than when he played.

No it wouldnt of been. Teams looking to draft qbs who have top five picks dont trade into the high teens and forego drafing franchise touted qbs. It'd be like us passing on tanny and trading into the mid 20s but worse

I feel that's exactly why he's considering it now; more and more of his friends/contemporaries are stepping into the ownership/management arena. Jordan, Elway, Magic Johnson, etc.. these guys are lifelong competitors.

ya don't suppose Elway hasn't teased Dan on the golf course about not having the nads to jump in and buck heads as NFL figureheads? Elway the Bronco. Dan the Dolphin. Mano-a-Mano, Pt.2 baby!

We actually had the 20th pick that year. We traded up with the Vikings to get to 19.

Even still, the Chargers actually drafted Manning and the Giants drafted Rivers. Both teams were desperate for a QB and weren't trading out of their positions.

Can we hire Marino to teach Ryan Tannehill how to sense the pass rush, and do the Marino hop-skip up into the pocket, to avoid the sack?

In his prime, Marino seemed to have eyes on the back of his head.
