Marino on Inside the NFL

Elway's dad was a college football coach, so he grew up in the game, which makes him more qualified than Dan. That said, getting Manning makes him looks pretty good as a GM.
Being GM means long hours, scouting trips to college games, the combine, the all-star games, Dan tried it once, realized he didn't want to put the work in and smartly returned to TV, where he gets good coin to "work" 5 months a year.
Great players don't usually make great coaches or GMs.
Shula was a marginal player. I think he was better coach, lol.

well its working out for my favorite hockey team thus far (the avalanche bringing back all time greats Patrick Roy to coach and Joe Sakic in a presidents role), why not the dolphins as well.

And their Master Stevie Y is the GM in Tampa :D

Go Wings!!

sucks so bad that they are in the eastern conference.

For other than reigniting the Avalanche rivalry it was the right move and I like it. It would have been awesome if they could have gotten it back to where it was when Roy first fought Vernon then Osgood at center ice. Imagine Roy and Bab**** going at it at the end of the benches. I thought Crawford was going to start a fight with Scotty one night

But you're right. Roy has them off to a nice start.

I think this conversation is assuming that Marino is going to be a GM. There are other various roles he could play within the organization.

Presumably, Danny would not be the GM but, rather, a GM would be working under Danny. Danny would be in an overseer position, like a President for Football Operations. He would have the big vision, etc. But I can't imagine that Danny would be the grinder that a GM or player personnel guy would be.

Now the GM, player personnel director, etc, may answer to Danny. They may figure out the details and minutiae and Danny would be a big picture guy.

That's my opinion as to how it would play out, and Danny may be fine in that role.

hmmmm.... Marino moves from CBS to the Fins Front office....... Head Coach Cowher I would then have to think would be in play.... CBS have any GMs on staff ?

Can we hire Marino to teach Ryan Tannehill how to sense the pass rush, and do the Marino hop-skip up into the pocket, to avoid the sack?

In his prime, Marino seemed to have eyes on the back of his head.

That is something your born with. Marino was and Tannehill wasn't.

Marino is the single solitary reason I am a die hard Dolphins fan. I would poop myself if this happened.

Discusses all things Dolphins. I think he is right that RT has the ability, but issues he had last year are creeping back.

The part I like and Mr. Ross HAS TO consider is making him part of the organization. Make him the president of the team. Allow him to set up a personnel department. I would love to see it. Why not bring back the best Miami Dolphin of all time. All someone that has been in the trenches lead this team. It would also be great PR for the owner as he tries to give a face lift to this team and find funds for a stadium.

Quick watch...recommended.

Thanks for the info. But no thanks on Marino. We don't need another would be ex-player who knows nothing about being in charge. It would be Matt Millen all over again. Plus he already quit once before he can't be trusted to finish it when it got hard.

What makes him qualified for a major NFL job? How about being connected to the NFL in some capacity for about 30 years. He has the respect of people throughout the league. Plus, he will help bring credibility locally which is a must with a dwindling fan base and need for stadium upgrades.

Many had the same questions about John Elway and he has done a great job with his team.

I bet if Marino was in charge when Peyton Manning was a free agent, Miami would have had a puncher's chance to land him. It would have been a lot better besides the hotel meeting that Philbin had with him in Indy.

Perhaps the greatest Dolphin of them all is the one to bring them from the depths.

Marino is not the greatest Dolphin of them all. Csonka is no question about it. Marino was great but he never finished the job!
