Marino vs. Manning??..

Manning definitely has a better supporting cast.

I'd take Marino, because of what he did, with less of a team. That's not a knock on Peyton either. I like Peyton

Aye Dan showed that he cared about more than records. Even his last years with the dolphins he showed more intensity then we see out of most "leaders" now. Somone make a time machine and well take ricky back to 84. Lol the idea of somone having to stop ricky up the middle and handle an arm like Danny's makes me cry.

If MArino in his prime had a defense that was just a smidge better, he would have won a least one SB. If had a RB like RW, he would have as well. If he'd have had both, he would have won several.
The only time Marino ever had any semblance of a defense was at the end of his career. By that time, his skills were eroding and his legs were giving out.
Quite frankly, as good a coach as Shula was, I blame him as much as anyone for Dan not having a ring. It was Shula's devotion to that joke Olividatti that cost Marino at least a ring. Olividatti's defense were a joke. At times, we had talent, but the schemes he ran were pathetic. Shula should have fired him, but he stayed with him and because of that, ruined any chances of Miami winning the big game with Dan. Still, Dan carried the Dolphins further than any other QB coudl have. Even when Miami had inferior players on offense -including reciever - Miami was always in the game because of Danny.
OK, after all that: I would easily take Marino over Manning. There is no comparison.

Marino right now no doubt.

But later if Manning wins a sb then he might be classified as better.

Marino vs. Manning??

In a bar fight? Marino.
Won more big games? Marino.
Appearing to have a seizure at the line of scrimmage? Manning.
Crapping his pants at the sight of the Patriots? Manning.

In all seriousness, though, Manning is looking more and more to have a career that mirrors Dan's; lot's of gaudy numbers and success in the regular season, no Super Bowl win. I believe that no QB, as great as he might be, can carry a team to a Super Bowl win on his own. (Dan came the closest in the 1984 season, IMO.) Another example is Barry Sanders. He was the best RB I've ever seen, and how far was he able to carry those Lions teams?

Fair or otherwise, people will judge Marino and Manning according to the failure of their teams to win a Super Bowl. I don't think it's a fair judgement. Were Trent Dilfer and Doug Williams better QBs than Jim Kelly and Fran Tarkenton? It's a team sport, and our culture is too quick to hero-worship and to judge the superiority of the individual over the team. Success and failure in football is determined by the team. An individual might be able to have dominance in a game, but to cary a team to success through an entire year? I haven't seen it.

The importance of the team is one of the great beauties of football. It's also the source of some of it's slow tragedies, as we Dolphins fans experienced watching Marino's career.

Man! I can't wait for the season to get going!

When all is said and done, is there any doubt that Manning will have many of Marinos records?

I know Dan is your boy, but if Manning breaks a few more, and maybe wins a Superbowl, he'll have to get the nod. At least from the rest of the country.

manning would have been killed with what marino had to play with:shakeno:

Marino is the most talented QB to ever play the game.

Peyton is the smartest and best prepared QB to ever play the game.

Their levels of success depend souly on the system and talent surround them. Put Marino in the colts offense right now and he wouldn't fare well. Its too many audibles and reading defenses at the line. Not enough just going out there and throwing. Put Manning in the fins offense of the 80's/90's and he would get destroyed by not having the play action or a decent rb to hand/throw the ball to.

Each reached the pinacle of the position with different weapons. Marino his arm and heart, and Peyton his mind and eyes.

If you were going to assemble a team around one guy though, it would have to be Marino for the sheer fact that he makes more with less. Anyone who disputes that better have a hell of an arguement.

I don't disagree with anything that you have said, but I do believe that because we agree Manning is the smartest QB to ever play he could be successful in any offense. Manning is a lot more than his system, he is the system. When it is all said and done, whether Manning wins a superbowl or not he is going to be considered on of the NFL's all time best QBs. Hell ill take either on of them in there prime and build a team around them. I think it is a coin toss.

When Manning retires, he'll probably have most of Dan's records and if he wins a ring I think Peyton will get the nod. Peyton Manning does have an incredible supporting cast, or atleast it appears so but I don't know how good of a player Wayne and Stokeley would be on a different team. Marino was great, and if there is player that is compareable to him it would be Manning, IMO. Also it may not even matter, by the time he retires Tom Brady is probably gonna be considered better than both of them by most everybody who is not a Dolphins fan.

I don't think Manning get a ring because of the Patriots in his way/they will not be able to keep Edge for to many more years and when he's gone and the colts have to rely strictly on Manning like miami did Marino for those years he will SUFFER!!!!!!!!!!:fire:

Its tough to say and it is way to early in Peytons career to compare him to Marino. The single season touchdown record should be stricken from the record because of differant rules. With that "no contact beyond five yards" I honestly believe Marino could have thrown for 60-70 touchdowns. I am as big a Dolphins fan as anybody but if you say that Marino did not have anybody around him you must be blind; Marino had Clayton and Duper as well as a solid offensive line. The only thing he lacked was a running game, then again that may have padded his stats a bit. If you look at all aspects of the quarterbacks play you have to say Marino, he was just so much more shifty and mobile inside the pocket and his passes were just as good if not better than Mannings. It is way too early to tell, Manning was drafted in 99 and is in the prime of his career, Marino anchored the team for nearly two decades.

Damn, I gotta get to work:cry:

Only by fans that don't watch alot of football. I want to see Manning still do it when his weapons (edge, harrison, wayne, etc) are either old, or replaced with much worse players. Last year was incredible but so was 84' and most every season after it.

The one thing that nobody ever take into account is that Manning get to play atleast 8 games a year in perfect condition and I think last year he play something like 12 games in a dome. no wind no rain no snow how much easier does it make it.
