Very guilty. We now know this isn't just about torn ligaments, broken bones, and having problems walking. The effects of playing this game are even more devastating than we thought. I wouldn't be surprised if I saw this game move to two hand touch at some point. Seriously. I love football but there's no way I'd play in the NFL if I had the opportunity given all the information I have at my disposal now. I've always felt that way but even more so recently. I wouldn't want my children playing football, either.
I don't feel guilty at all. Football is a choice, not a requirement.
My grandson is 10 years old and just started playing football. Me, my wife and his parents were very excited because for one he is not a brute, but a lanky skinny kid with good hands.
Last week in a game he had a head injury and was pulled from the game.
It turns out he is okay, but we are now at a crossroad. His mother (my daughter) wants him to quit and go back to playing basketball (he is a great BB player). I am not sure and nither is my wife sure about how to handle this.
We are at this point leaving this decision to him. But should he get hurt again, even I may step in and MAKE him quit. Head injury is what I mean.
