Mathis and Lewan

I'd go no on Mathis. Seems obvious we'd give Lewan a long look should he get to 19.

i have a rather dim view on rape. believe it or not that includes at pick 19 lol

No and maybe

I guess I'm not buying the idea that Lewan will be there at 19. Can you imagine Albert and Lewan as bookend tackles?

On character, he's a concern even on the field. Personal foul machine. Fights and bad behavior off. I could see Philbin being reluctant. However we have the Ross overrule possibility with the Michigan connection. If Miami takes him I assume he would have checked out on the interview and investigation side. It's hard for fans to get a read on that because its behind locked doors. He may be nowhere near an Incognito. Or he might be a clone.

So after hiring Hickey and announcing that the new GM controls personnel decisions, Ross would overrule Hickey with the first pick in his first draft? That would be unfortunate for the future of this team.

Well....

I'd take Lewan at 19 if he fell that far (doubtfull), guy is a Incog Jr. with his off field antics so would rather take Z. Martin personally.

As for Mathis, I'd toss the Eagles a 5th but would make it clear no one is getting a new deal. He's on track to make

2014 - $5.15
2015 - $5.50
2016 - $6.00

I would maybe...MAYBE bump him up to say.... $7 a year across the board but would not extend the deal. 2014/2015/2016 - $7 per.

No way I'm giving a 32 year old Guard a multi year deal for $8-9+ even if he is the best guard in the game right now. Guess he could pull a Revis and holdout until he gets paid, but Eagles played it smart and locked him up cheap before he blew up. (Late bloomer hurt him in contract talks).

I was thinking about how Philbin was supposedly overruled on keeping Sherman by Ross, so there is precedent for Ross meddling. But on Lewan, it would probably be more along the lines of "here is what we know...here is what we think" and Ross could get involved listening to the intelligence the team has and making an executive decision.

Never trade for a G on the latter part of his career who isnt happy making $5Mil per year. So we trade a pick to get someone who wants more money? NO thanks.

I'm very interested in Lewan at 19 from an ability standpoint. Id heard before of the rape allegations against his teammate and his involvement, but i only looked it up today. From the police report, this looks VERY like a legit rape case.

So I don't think you could excuse Lewan's actions on the basis it was just a girl with buyers remorse who was screwing up his teammates career.

Second, and most interesting, is that it seems to have been 2 teammates who reported Lewan as having threatened to rape the victim again. If true, that's a red flag on multiple levels for me.

Whatever about on field shenanigans, we really don't need a new olineman on SoBe who thinks rape is OK and who's own teammates reported, esp after what the team just went through. I doubt we go near Lewan if the reports are as legit as they seem.

...which totally undermines his brand new GM. If Ross is going to overrule the football guys he brought in to make these kinds of decisions, the long term future of this team under Ross' ownership isn't looking very good.

Mathis at the right price, not surrendering a 3rd for the guy. 6th or 7th and I'm good with it.
