When I heard that we hired Philbin, my initial reaction was, that means Flynn is probablly coming. But, I'm thinking, are we really going to make that mistake again? Bringing in Flynn,f or what it will cost us to acquire him, seems like AJ Feeley and Ray Lucas all over again. Any enthusiam to bring in Flynn is based on essentially one great game. And while that one game truly was great, it was essentially a meaningless game for the Packers with almost no pressure on Flynn.

If you take a step back and look at who Flynn actually is, the prospect of bringing him in is at best a risk, and at worst, an impulsive overreaction. Flynn was a 7th round pick. Does that automatically preclude him from ever being an elite NFL qb? absolutely not. Brady, Romo, etc. have proven that the draft is not always a fair barometer of NFL success. However, a 7th round pick having any kind of success in the NFL is extremely rare. If you look at his stats at LSU, he only was the starter for his senior season. That year, he completed 56% of his passes and averaged 6.7 ypa. Those are poor stats by any standard.

While I certainly do not view Moore as a "franchise qb," I think he may be at least as good if not a better option at this point until we do actual find that guy.

In conclusion, I'm fearful that we will put all our chips in on Matt Flynn, and when he's not what we thought he would be, our franchise will again be set back. If someone can convince me otherwise, I'd love to hear it.
 
Give me the guy who threw for 480 yards and 6 TD's under his former OC and our new head coach than Matt Moore every time.

Very nice post!

You'll probably end up getting blasted for it (you've been here for a few years, so I'm sure you knew that) ... but I think it could very well be a valid point.

For the record, I want us to get Flynn ... but, that is a worthy point - that hopefully keeps the asking point lower. We'll see.
 
Why not let the coach who worked with him every day make that call?

While Flynn might be a great QB, i wouldn't bet the farm on him. Personally, i think the Phins would be better off drafting Tannehill, Foles or Weeden and letting them learn under Moore. Moore has earned the right to be the starter next year and I think he has at least as much upside as Flynn does.

I would keep Moore, try and aquire Flynn without betting the farm, and draft another QB in rounds 2 or 3.

If Matt Flynn comes here, then I think he could potentially be the franchise qb that we have been looking for. Philbin knows Flynn better than anybody. He is a new HC who I can't see going out on a limb to bring in a system guy. His future depends on that decision. If Flynn busts, so does Philbin. If we don't make a run at Flynn, then he is clearly not "the guy". Now, if we try to get him and he signs elsewhere, I think he will be the next "what if" for us. This decision is on Philbin. We will just have to wait and see.
 
brett favre, mark brunell, matt hasselbeck, aaron rodgers, they were all once backup QB's at Green Bay, how did those guys turn out? GB has a history of grooming QB's for success, Flynn has been sitting behind the best QB in the NFL for the last 4 years, plus he will come over with his OC wich will be a very smooth transition for him, he alos won a national championship at LSU, yes he has only started 2 games but in those 2 games he looked very good, matt schaub came in for vick in a couple games and he is now a franchise QB for the texans, I would rather take the risk on flynn, save our draft pick and use it on somebody else so we dont mortgage the whole farm for RG3
 
What sets Flynn apart from the Feeleys and Kolbs of the world is that one of the coaches that knows him best and basically built the system he operated in is already here. I honestly don't see a lot of risk here. Either the kid is good enough to flourish in this league as a starter in the system that Philbin will bring along, or he isn't and Miami will look elsewhere. But Philbin should have a very good idea just what his ceiling is.
 
I think whether we go after him or not will be a telling sign of what Philbin thinks of him. If we go after him then Philbin endorses him and i'll feel comfortable, but if we don't, I think it means Philbin knows that Flynn isn't as good as the one game showed and he doesn't feel Flynn is the answer.
 
well technically, it's two games and not one game for flynn as he played pretty well against the patriots last season when rodgers was out. But yes, he has only played a few games, but like others have said, I'm sure philbin has a good idea what he has in flynn and if he pushes for him, then flynn might be the real deal and if not, then that shows he isn't the guy. The one thing though, is atleast I think the packers will have to release him, which unlike kolb and feeley for us, he wouldn't cost us a high draft pick, just $, but maybe he could cost less playing for philbin or might come over to miami and not as much knowing he has a chance to start in miami and play well alongside his green bay OC.

Is getting Flynn a gamble? Sure, but it's something that we NEED to do. We have been cowards when it comes to the QB position. It's about time we step up and roll the dice and go all in. It may not work out, but it also may lead to GREAT things. Having Philbin as our HC, who knows all about Flynn, who has a system that Flynn is familiar to, and showed it off when he had his time to shine, you'd be crazy not to bet against fools gold.

you're right, the backup quarterbacks have been good that have come from green bay, and the hasselback one particularly is something to think about. I think hasselback was either a late round draft pick or undrafted and look at how good he was for the seahawks. While hasselback was never great like mannning or brady, etc, he was pretty darn good for many years and I'm pretty sure we would or i know i would be thrilled if flynn ends up being anything like a young matt hasselback. who knows..
 
i Just dont understand what the problem is with picking up a guy who beat out Brian Brohm who was picked WAYYYYY ahead of him 3 years ago in the Draft and as a Backup QB you draft in the later rounds obviously, so both there Draft positions should be thrown out the window.. He showed 3 years ago that he was a better Backup. Now he has been seasoned Just like Tony Romo was just like Tom Brady was Philip Rivers sat behind Drew Brees. Heck Alex Smith Sat behind... well never mind. Anyways my point is if the HC of the Football team ive grown to love no matter how ****ty we are wants to bring in his Own Qb who maybe isn't the next Rodgers, Brady, or Manning. Maybe hes just your Average QB.He does have something RG3 Doesnt have. Experience in the system and 10 NFL Touchdowns as a Backup? thats got to be close to henne's numbers as a Freaking starter.... Im All for FLYNN FOR the Future. (if Philbin bring him in obviously) Hopefully you can prove everyone wrong Matt.
 
Get flynn and trade up in the draft to get Blackman. Load up the guns. And if Flynn don't work Moore would do fine with a duo like Marshall and Blackman.
